Make Hygge House, a Scandi-Alaskan inspired ridge retreat, your place to explore the area or just to…relax. Enjoy an upscale experience for your well-deserved staycation, romantic get-a-away, or even your wedding or honeymoon. Soak in the private hot tub and watch the Aurora dance overhead. Wander through the trails. Elevate your experience and hire a private chef or on-site masseuse. Immerse yourself in a place designed to bring you warmth, coziness and comfort, also known as: hygge. Welcome to Hygge House. A place designed to provide you with everything you need to have a cozy relaxing experience. Minimal furnishings with an Alaskan vibe. The house was built in 1977 and still retains several characteristic features of that time period. You'll know them when you see them ;-) It has a spacious layout with tons of natural light. Nature is a huge inspiration for the house as well as locally featured art and crafts. For your spa experience; robes, towels and slipper sandals are provided for use during your stay. Additionally, a heated towel warmer will further spoil you. Fresh Fox Spring water is available in the bubbler and we provide North Pole Coffee Company coffee and Sipping Streams Tea for your stay. Whether you stay in or go outside, you have ample opportunity to explore something new...from games, books and puzzles to looking for tracks in the snow, capturing the Aurora or discovering new plants. We hope you will have an experience to remember.
This is on our list of top Airbnbs we've stayed at! April and Mark were super helpful and accommodating hosts and the home was absolutely perfect! They have paid such great attention to the small details and have thought of everything! The house features a beautiful view of Fairbanks and the surrounding mountains, and if the conditions are right it's at a great location for viewing the Aurora!
Amazing place had everything listed and more, they left us little gifts and things to have and use while we where staying there would definitely recommend to all my friends and family
Wow, wow, wow! As seasoned travelers and we look for unique stays in unique places. We could not have asked for a better experience than staying at Hygge House and getting to enjoy all that the area has to offer. From the minute we booked the communication with the host was next level. I am in the hospitality industry and it felt like I was speaking with the head of Guest Services at a high end resort. I wish more air bnb hosts took that approach. You can tell how much they care about their guests. Their recommendations were so appreciated, we adored the house and had an incredible time in Fairbanks. We even skipped the hot springs and local restaurants and opted for a chef and masseuse to come to us because we barely wanted to leave the house! We did venture out for Aurora tours, reindeer walks and ice fishing. Simply an unforgettable vacation, our hearts are full, thank you Mark and April for everything. Book this Airbnb asap, you will not regret it!
We loved the amazing views of the city and the mountain range behind. The Airbnb is in a very private, peaceful area in a wooded forest on the hillside and has all of the amenities one could want for a vacation in Fairbanks. The Airbnb instruction binder is very thorough and covers all of the amenities and dos/donts for the property, which we found very helpful. Mark and April were very responsive and provided suggestions for a taxi driver and Aurora guide. If we are ever back in Fairbanks, we will certainly try to stay here again. It has my highest recommendation.
Why Hygge House? Because we believe hygge embodies what our retreat is all about. Hygge (hue-geh) is a Danish word used to acknowledge a moment or a feeling or a space that embodies coziness, something special, something unique and many times with a tie to nature. While we do not live in Scandinavia, many of our Interior Alaska life pleasures and challenges are similar to those found in other Northern countries. Both in the Winter as well as in the Summer.
Our retreat is all about being cozy and appreciating the simple things in life. While we can’t create a hyggelig feeling for anyone, we can certainly provide the environment and set the stage for them to experience their own hyggelig moments.
Hygge House is on a 10-acre property on top of Cranberry Ridge in the hills just North of Fairbanks. It is in an ideal spot to base out of for adventures. The City Skyline, the Alaska Range, Denali and the Goldstream Valley are all visible from the property. As the seasons change so do the views. In Winter, the views are very clear, but in Summer when all the foliage is leafed out you have to explore a little bit for the views. The property and area is safe and quiet. And quite lovely.
The Aurora is visible from many angles on the property. You can either just look out the front window, sit in the hot tub and watch the colors dance over head or head out for a walk to catch different shots. Aurora Season is around August 21st to April 21st.
Wildlife roam as they please. Moose, Fox, Lynx, Snowshoe Hare and Porcupine are some of the common visitors. Boreal Owls love to hang out along the trail behind the house. You may even see a Ptarmigan. Ravens, Chickadees, Woodpeckers and Grouse live here year round while other migratory birds will hang out for the Summer.
The gardens around the property are evolving and the trails to wander are infinite. The house is set in a Boreal Forest with Birch, Aspen, Poplar and White Spruce to the south and Black Spruce on the North side. Access to the Skyridge Trail system is super easy to get to.
In Winter, the property is typically warmer than in the city or any lower valley location. When the inversion effect is in place, temps will be 10-30 degrees warmer.
While the area is quiet, you will most likely hear the sounds of chickens from our property next door. Although they are a few hundred yards away, the hills are alive with the sounds of egg laying music.
We are a family owned and operated business. No property managers...all communication is from us to you, period. We want you to have the best experience possible.
Lastly, we are huge supporters of local. We support local artists, producers, and businesses as much as we possibly can. You will find featured products throughout our home.
While the property is secluded, it is also very close to town and many conveniences and attractions.
