I was very happy with my stay. The shower was nice and warm. Chas is a very friendly guy. He told me all kinds of stories. The only remark I have is that the sleeping are isn't all that comfortable. But I managed to resolve that by shuffling the mattress around and using an extra pillow. The area is great. Very quite at night, but still really close to a grocery store and a dozen restaurants.

Chas was a warm and welcoming host who shared not only his home but also stories and interesting histories of the area. Chas is friendly while also encouraging of his guests' needs to go and have their own experiences. His home in El Cerrito (Richmond) is a perfect distance from San Francisco, giving easy access to transit (bus and BART rail via a walking/bike trail) but also a more local, suburban atmosphere for those who need some peace and quiet after a long day of adventures. Chas generously shared his other living spaces with us, and we used is kitchen frequently with ease. Just some facts about the place that other travelers might want to be aware of: this room is quite small so it is ideal for those who really just need a cozy place to sleep after a full day rather than those who like to spend days hanging out in their place of lodging. Also, Chas's home makes use of various water recycling and composting systems that travelers unfamiliar with environmentally conscious living should be prepared to acclimate to. I really appreciated how this place helped me understand a different way of life and gave me plenty of lessons to take home with me.

Chas was a very accommodating host. While I stayed at the Tatami Ryokan loft, I had access to a full kitchen and bathroom. Also, Chas provided me with directions to the local grocery store.

Chas was quite welcoming. The first night I got in he offered me some sake which was just what the doctor ordered after a long day of traveling. His house is in a pleasant, quiet neighborhood in El Cerrito a mile from the BART, and just a couple blocks from a small grocery store and a couple places to eat. I enjoyed my one week stay there.

It was a unusual and unforgettable experience for me staying Chas' place. His kindness and genuine help made my stay much easier and convenient. Just before the day I moved to Chas' place my left leg got injured and I became limping. At my moving in time Chas offered me help with moving in all the luggage even though he himself was somewhat week. He offered me a nice bed in his office instead of the loft with climbing up the ladder . He patiently and suggestively answered my each single question. He made me feel like being at home there. Thank you so much, Chas. May you be rewarded in heaven.
