I’d like to open my review with this observation: over the three months that I stayed at Veronica’s Airbnb, I have come to learn that Veronica is a truly special person, quite literally a standout host, and an endless source of goodwill and inspiration. I am eternally grateful that my family and I had the good fortune to stumble upon her place before the summer started. Veronica’s warm hospitality and kindness made my summer immensely enjoyable and memorable. She consistently went above and beyond to accommodate me, whether through her thorough cleanings (which I would never have expected from an Airbnb host) or even through the brief chats I would have with her every morning before my summer internship in Lowell – she would always put aside whatever she was doing to wish me well for the day. Her sheer work ethic is admirable for any human being and far surpassed any of my expectations. I continue to be amazed by her capacity to balance her professional life as a nurse, her family, her obligations to the Ugandan community, and her own personal hobbies like gardening. I will never fully understand how she managed to find the time and energy to dedicate herself so fully to her wide range of endeavors. But perhaps what I’ll remember most are the shared moments and memories, the conversations about my internship and school and family and the world swirling around us. How could I forget the Ugandan food which she so graciously provided me on those lazy weekend afternoons? The matoke paste and the hearty beans, the savory pancakes and fibrous jackfruit – all etched into my culinary memory, as if I found myself dropped into Uganda for a couple of days, a feat only made possible by the graciousness and talent of my host. Veronica even took me along with her boys to a Ugandan cultural event in Waltham one weekend. She was under no obligation to do so, but she so strongly wanted me to experience Uganda and learn about the Ugandan community that she was willing to take me, a mere guest, alongside her. I highly, strongly recommend staying with Veronica, whether it be for a night, a couple of nights, or even three months as I did, if you have the time. I would give Veronica six stars (or more) if not for the limitations of the Airbnb review system. Thank you, Veronica, for your wonderful presence, and for making me feel like a member of your own family this summer. I will cherish the moments shared with you, your wonderful husband, and your exemplary, well-mannered children. I wish you and your family all the best from the bottom of my heart, and I hope that our paths may cross again in the future.
