Camping site in our yard or in the 50 acre woods. Simply pitch your own tent and enjoy nature at it's finest. FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN, OTHER GUESTS, AND NEIGHBORS, WE ARE OPEN TO VACCINATED GUESTS ONLY. This is a campsite in a rural Vermont hamlet. Bring your own tent and bedding or see below for tent rental info. This place is ONLY SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE COMFORTABLE WITH LARGE DOGS, CATS, and CHICKENS. There are plenty. When I was younger and more carefree, I traveled around Europe with nothing much more than a backpack on my back and a Eurorail pass. Backyard campgrounds were plentiful there, and cheap. I have always found it to be disappointing that the US is not as amenable to backpack travelers. Camping is often expensive, crowded, loud, and uncomfortable. Sometimes campsite are located near to RV''s with noisy generators. As a tribute to the old days and European ways, we would like to offer inexpensive, no thrills camping on our property for the backpacker on a budget. Camp anywhere on our nearly 50 wooded acres of land. We'll give you directions to trails and sights, and you take care of the rest. You can also camp on the lawn behind the house if you want something easy and near to the bathroom. Of course there is always the great outdoors for that sort of thing as well.... If you do want a bathroom, the only bathroom that comes with this camping rate is the bathroom in the barn. It includes a toilet and a cold water tap. (If the barn is being rented out you may use the downstairs bathroom of the house.) We are currently working on an outdoor solar shower, but unless that is finished, it is a shower-free camp zone. Camping rates do not include use of kitchen so for meals you are on your own with that. We do recommend keeping food items in the house or barn and not the tent - as not to attract bears into your outside bedroom. Our property is at the end of a dead-end dirt road with many acres of undeveloped land surrounding it. It is very hilly with streams, boulders, and trails. The house is situated in a hamlet of four farm-y houses. It is fairly private and laid back, You are not likely to encounter any one else if you wander away from the houses and into the woods. What you will likely experience is a variety of soothing woods sounds which range from the hooting of owls to the chirping of frogs and the occasional distant howling of coyotes in the distance. The coyotes, by the way, are actually small animals, on average about 30 lbs and are not going to come near you.) There are bears around but seeing one is about as rare as seeing a moose. They are most likely to be seen in the fall when the apple trees and blueberry bushes are full of fruit. Lemony (our dog) will likely inform us all if one should wander nearby. They are unlikely to want to go near humans as they are black bears, the less aggressive cousins of the grizzlies. My family lives in the house and includes me, my husband, our young child, our dog Maggie, and our cats Trouble and Zagglepuss. We have a variety of free-range chickens running around (none of which will hurt you either! Please no campfires $5.00 extra per person after 2 people. Children under 16 are free.
Absolutely breathtaking location, super friendly hosts (including animals), and well functioning, clean amenities. Feels right at home. Would be challenging to find if not for clear instructions; but be prepared to get your tires dirty!
Lovely camping spot in the back yard! Beautiful gardens with a flat lawn, beautiful view, and great fire pit. Hosts were very helpful with instructions and showed me around the property upon my arrival. I felt safe as a solo female traveler and would definitely stay again.
Wonderful easy-camping option- my spot in the woods was very private, but only a short walk to the barn with the half bathroom and charging station. Nice fire pit by each of the few campsites, and a really nice outdoor shower as well by the barn. Chickens roaming around the gardens as well which is always a plus!
We live at the end of a dirt road in a little hamlet of country houses. Beyond us are woods for hundreds of unbroken acres.
TRAILS: Our trails start at the far northeast corner behind the house and spread outwards. You can also keep walking along Mowrey road down the long steep hill. This is actually a town trail. There are several trails that go all the way to Jamaica. Ask us for directions.
DOWNTOWN JAMAICA: It is small and quaint but our downtown has a few nice attractions including a general store with everything you probably need. There is also an art gallery, a glass blowing shop, and a great hot yoga studio called Change Yoga.
ATTRACTIONS: In the summer you may want to go swimming or hiking. Hurricane Irene changed the swimming holes around a bit, and took some away indefinitely but some good ones still remain. Our favorite is the Stratton Snowmaking pond in Winhall off of Kendall Farm road. This one is about 80 feet deep, crystal clear, and easily accessible. It is likely to be filled with people but don’t worry, the pond is about ½ mile in circumference and there is plenty of space despite the cars. There are plenty of others including the waterfalls of Hamilton Falls, Pikes Falls, and the way off the track Angel Falls along the West River Trail. There are more places to hike around here than we can shake a stick at, but the easiest and one of the prettiest is located right in Jamaica State park where you can walk along an old train bed along the West River. There is a small per person charge for entering the park (or you can enter from the direction of the Ball Mountain Dam for free).
We have a very unique piece of architecture on our road. The neighboring church, Our Lady of Ephesus, House of Prayer has constructed an exact replica of the Virgin Mary's last known home (in what is now known as Turkey). All are welcome to visit. It is free, open 24 hours and located at the South Hill road end of Mowrey road. There are occasional open masses. If you are interested in knowing more about this, I would look it up on the web under the Church's name.
No public transportation. You need a car or a bike. If you bike, be prepared for lots of steep, long hills.
自我介绍
I live from Jamaica, Vermont and am a garden designer/landscape architect and my husband is a painter/ski instructor. We are lovers of plants, nature, animals, and traveling. We have two daughters. Our oldest is an adult living nearby with an interest in music, board, and video games. Our younger daughter is a vivacious young freestyle athlete with a great zest for life. We are all country folk. We like wild places, bluegrass music and contra dancing. When not working we are likely to be found climbing mountains, biking, swimming, and gardening. Our house is a house in progress. We are its architects and builders. We are doing Air BnB because we love the idea behind it. It is so simple and pure. Plus is helps us fund our constant house improvement projects and our younger daughter's education. We are not subsistence farmers by any means, but we definitely have what some are calling the modern homestead. That is we produce a lot of our food at our house. We have a huge garden and ranging chickens. We own a sugarbush from which our neighbor produces syrup. We chop our own firewood and tend our own trails. We do a lot of things for ourselves like this, This land is perfect for that sort of living. We like all sorts of people who are relaxed and real. We will try, ourselves, to be relaxed are real around guests and hosts. What other way is there to be? Please bring your own unique set of values and interests to share. We welcome people of all shades, sorts, and diversified histories. Everyone is welcome to leave their hate at home, of course, buried beneath a rock somewhere. At Evernest, all we need is love. We look forward to meeting you.
