Around 3.5 hours flying time from the UK, the island is the closest genuine winter sun destination to the UK. It boasts the most amazing volcanic scenery, forged by six-year eruptions during the 1730´s, leaving about one quarter of the island submerged beneath a sea of solid lava.
The island has plenty to offer, including great weather year round, this varies from around 20 degrees in the winter to a comfortable 30 degrees in the height of summer. There are almost 100 beaches and fantastic scenery. It is home to the many creations of the famous local artist and architect Cesar Manrique, who created six Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism which fuse the rugged landscapes with his own amazing creativity.
The three main tourist resorts are Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen, and there is a fast emerging ‘fourth resort’ of Puerto Calero, often referred to as the “Millionaires Marina”. Lanzarote is an ideal launch pad for island hopping, as both Fuerteventura and La Graciosa are only a short ferry ride away.
Like many places in Lanzarote, Puerto del Carmen was originally a small fishing village, and the old harbour is still a delightful place to visit, boasting some excellent seafood restaurants. There are well over 100 restaurants on the Avenida de Las Playas alone, with menus to suit all tastes and budgets from fast food, through to high class gourmet eating. Although the resort has grown over the last twenty years — it now stretches along the whole 6 kilometres of golden sandy beaches — the town has been saved from the high-rise buildings that blight so many other destinations due to the strict planning restrictions.
There are plenty of car hire and bike hire shops nearby including e-scooters and e-bikes, it is possible to ride all the way into Arrecife along the promenade where you will find lots of shops, bars and some great little tapas restaurants. You can also visit the The Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa. It is the tallest building on the island - why not treat yourself to lunch whilst enjoying the spectacular view from the 17th floor!
Casa Josephine is situated just a ten minute stroll to the beach (or just two minutes on an e-scooter) and main strip in Puerto Del Carmen and the Old Town. There is a Lidl supermarket a 7 minute walk away and the Biosfera Shopping Centre is just a 10 minute walk away. Lanzarote Golf Club is a 5 minute drive whilst Ranchero Texas is a 4 minute drive away.

Casa Josephine is a ten minute drive from the airport, either take one of the many official Lanzarote taxis that are outside the arrivals hall or hire a car. If using a taxi, ask for Bitacora Lanzarote Club, Puerto del Carmen. There is no need to book and the fare is currently around 16-18€.
Directions: On leaving the airport, follow the directions to Puerto del Carmen. After a few minutes take the left hand slip road to Puerto del Carmen. Follow the LZ-40 for 6 kilometers then take the right hand slip road to Puerto Del Carmen. At the next roundabout go straight across onto Calle Juan Carlos (you will see Lidl on your right). Take the next left on to Calle Togio. After 400 meters turn right onto Calle Alcorce, Bitacora 2 is on your left as you turn into the road.
