Cozy stay in this historic b&b, Ellen is such a warm host and so kind. I only got to stayed one night, but wish I had more. Bed was comfy and room was very clean. Would definitely stay here again and for longer next time!

This was our second visit and it definitely won’t be our last stay at Catalpa House. The space is charmingly historic, yet cozy and comfortable. Ellen’s breakfast will make you wish you could stay another night!

I would recommend Catalpa House to anyone seeking a tranquil getaway in a beautiful environment and an amazing house. The food alone is worth it. Ellen is an amazing cook and made me feel pampered with coffee waiting for me by my room and the most beautiful breakfasts in the cozy breakfast nook. Larger families should consider booking the the three rooms and taking the whole upstairs to enjoy all that this region has to offer. I would stay here every weekend if I could.

This place is a gem!!! I was in the area for a wedding and am so thankful to have found this place. Ellen and Edwin are salt of the earth, brilliant creatives who have built such a retreat!!! I would be up here every other weekend if I lived in NYC. I mean she makes her own oatmilk for the best oatmeal I have ever had, and I am an expert in making oatmeal!! Honestly, if ever the world ends, I am bringing the family and b-lining up to Rensselaerville to try and join these two so we can sort it all out together.

I visited Rensselearville 20 years earlier and was struck by the architecture and history of the region. A meeting in the area provided an opportunity for an visit and the Catalpa House was a great homebase to explore the town and nearby hamlets. I had to push myself to leave the house as it was a great spot to relax, take in the quiet and sounds of nature, and read the magazines available to guests in the first floor lounge areas. Before breakfast, Ellen put out a much appreciated pot of coffee on the breakfront on the second floor hallway. Breakfast, served on the shaded porch, was as ordered and excellent. Looking forward to another visit to the Catalpa House.
