A beautiful house in a beautiful part of the world. We would love to return. Our first time visiting Orkney and we couldn't have found a better place to stay.

The house and location is superb. We loved it all. The views of the sea and wildlife are lovely all the time. The archaeology is fascinating, Stromness, Kirkwall and Kirbister museums are brilliant, The Ness of Brodgar and Maeshowe and all the other numerous places are short and peaceful drives from the house. What a place.

Absolutely stunning house in an idyllic location. Birsay itself is a friendly little hamlet steeped in history. Snusan House is very well equipped & comfortable. The views of the Bay of Birsay, particularly from the upstairs lounge, are stunning. The changing skies at sunset were mesmerising. Plenty walks from the doorstep & a handy little shop 2 minutes walk away. The Birsay Tearoom is 2 minutes in the other direction - lovely friendly staff & fab homecooking & baking. We had regular sightings of hen harriers & short eared owls from the house as well as numerous seabirds. Loved hearing the oyster catchers & curlews too. The fishermen in our party appreciated the large garage for storing rods & equipment. Easy access for loading the cars too. Snusan House provided a wonderful base for our life affirming trip to Orkney. We were all sad to leave!

We loved everything about Snusan house. It’s in such a beautiful quiet location with lovely walks from the door and always an abundance of wildlife around. The kitchen is well equipped and appliances fairly easy to use. Wonderful utility room! The lounge area has fantastic views but as we were so lucky with the weather it was too hot to sit near the windows or even on the sofas with the evening sun so would have appreciated some thin curtains or blinds. The bedrooms and bathrooms are really comfortable however there are one or two touches that it was a shame weren’t included that I would expect in a beautiful new house such as this. No mirrors at all in the bedrooms for hair styling or even seeing what your clothes look like which we found a bit frustrating and small towels not big bath sheets provided. No toilet roll holders on the wall so have to reach behind you to the shelf. All silly petty things but maybe little touches the owner could add. We would definitely return!

Snusan House is about as good as it gets: Stunning views across Birsay Bay through picture windows; pristine, well-equipped kitchen & bathrooms; comfy beds, sofas & chairs - this place has the lot. We cooked several meals here and the kitchen is unusually well-equipped with more-than-adequate numbers of glasses, cutlery, crockery & pans; extras like a an electric whisk, tupperware, good supplies of tea, coffee & sugar, etc. The 4 bedrooms are more spacious than they look in the photos and the showers are excellent, with dual heads & doors that seal. The location of the house could not be beaten for walkers & birdwatchers, giving instant access to countryside, beaches & clifftops. The historic sites in Birsay are also incredible - 16th Century Earl's Palace at the bottom of the lane and remains of a Viking settlement on nearby Brough of Birsay. The cafe up the lane is great too! Also, Sophie is a friendly, helpful host who answers queries quickly. If I could give 6 stars I would!
