The Isle of Raasay lies off the west coast of Scotland in the Inner Hebrides, separated from the Isle of Skye by a short 25 minute ferry journey.
This corner of the world is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, geological variety, and one of Scotland’s most incredibly diverse ecosystems.
Rooted in centuries of illicit distilling and rich in history, culture and community, from Bonnie Prince Charlie and celebrated Gaelic poet Sorley MacLean, to the enigmatic Calum’s Road – Raasay has a character of its own, distinct from any of the other Hebridean islands. It is also a fantastic base from which to explore the neighbouring Isle of Skye.
The Isle of Raasay is accessible by ferry from the Isle of Skye. Once on the Isle of Skye, continue your journey to the ferry terminal at Sconser. Along the main road to Portree on the Isle of Skye, look out for signs to Sconser as you approach Loch Sligachan. You will see signs for Raasay (or RATHARSAIR in Gaelic) as you approach Sconser Ferry Terminal.
Here you step aboard the CalMac ferry and enjoy the scenic 25-minute sailing across the Sound of Raasay. The roads can be very busy during peak times of the year and we therefore recommend leaving plenty of travel time to reach the ferry on time.
Advance booking is not required on the ferry between Skye and Raasay, however, we advise that you check the CalMac timetable in advance and arrive at the terminal at least 10 minutes before departure to guarantee passage. Tickets are bought and paid for on the ferry.
