Overall this was an acceptable stay in an average hotel with nice enough staff. There were a couple of plus points and a couple of negative which I'll detail below. (+) Bedroom/ bathroom basically as described. Parking in a garage at the back. Very nice breakfast with loads of choices and we were stuffed to the brim! Tom (I think) was friendly as he served us our breakfast. I will say I think the place is in the process of being done up at the moment, so gradually the standard and decor will be improving - just obviously this takes time to get done. (-) On arrival we'd booked check in for 11pm which was given as an option, this was done a good few hours before normal check-in hours would have finished but our booking wasn't seen. It is my understanding that this hotel hasn't used Air Bnb much in the past, but I think it is important to check bookings regularly as people can book quite late through the site. As it was we couldn't gain entry to the property even when ringing the doorbell repeatedly. In the end we got in with another guest coming back from the pub, and we had to ring the bell in reception to get checked in. The owner/ manager was just going to bed and by his own admission we wouldn't have got in otherwise! I have to be honest and say we were quite disappointed by the look of our room. I think the photos on here give a slightly better impression than the truth, and the place looked slightly more upmarket than it was. We'd decided to pick this one as a treat even though it was notably more expensive than others of a similar specification, however in practice it was no better. We couldn't find the room we stayed in on the pictures listed. All the photos posted were redecorated with plush bathrooms and nice big windows. Ours had no main window and only a side window backing directly onto a brick wall, and the bathroom was basic, with a radiator randomly leaning against the wall. Again I think the place was being refurbished and our room hadn't been got to yet... not necessarily a problem but we'd have liked to know what we were booking. Again I think this may be more that they hadn't used Air bnb much before so there was a little miscommunication. The room was a bit noisy as someone nearby had their tv on all night, but this wasn't the owner's fault. The only other thing to mention was that the free onsite parking wouldn't be available to everyone as there were limited spaces. This was another reason we chose the place and luckily for us we could fit in, though it did mean being woken up early in the morning to move the car for another guest to get out. If it had been full you would've been left with street parking with chargeable hours so that would have been disappointing. Overall just a little pricey for what it was.
