Other astronomical phenomena you can look out for during your stay include the Aurora Borealis (more commonly known as the Northern Lights), and the occasional spectacular meteor shower. These shooting stars are grains of dust from the tails of comets burning up when they enter the Earth’s atmosphere. To continue your stargazing odyssey there is the Kielder Observatory. This hugely popular attraction is located on the top of Black Fell, just up the road near Kielder Village, and is run by the Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society.
