The Gincase is such a gorgeous property full of character. The exposed beams all over the house are just stunning. The house was immaculate when we got there and there was tea, coffee, biscuits and milk waiting for us. There was even some cereal for the children which was a lovely extra touch. It is child friendly with high chair, play mat, toys and books available which really made us love our stay. Everything had been thought of! There were 4 adults and 4 children staying and we had more than enough room. The beds were extremely comfortable and there were extra blankets readily available if needed. There were more than enough towels for us all which was great. The surroundings are lovely and the starry night sky was amazing to see as it was so clear with there being no light pollution nearby. Steven is an excellent host and was extremely responsive to any queries. Would absolutely recommend if you’re looking for a home away from home in a peaceful setting.
The Gincase is a very comfortable property which is actually even nicer than it looks in the pictures! Steven was a generous host - a welcome pack with yummy goodies, tea, coffee, oil, salt, pepper, milk etc all provided. Lots of blankets and towels and always somewhere to put things - hooks, drawers, side tables, shopping bags etc - a very convenient cottage! It was also notable that safety had been considered - fire exits and steps marked, fire blanket and extinguisher available. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfy too. The cottage was nice and warm and I imagine the beautiful garden would be perfect to sit out in over the summer months. Lots of interesting places nearby to visit. We felt very well looked after and will definitely consider coming back as it’s a nice halfway point between my cousins and my sister and me! An enjoyable stay.
lovely accommodation in a beautiful corner of cumbria. Very close to Hadrians wall and roman museums. Would recommend.
In the village of Hayton we have an eighteenth century church, a pub, and attractive amenity spaces. As well as the Walnut field there is a play area with basketball posts, goalposts and zip wire and an enclosed adventure area for young children.
The Stone Inn Pub is a few minutes walk away and offers traditionally brewed cask ales, wines, spirits and minerals . Meals are served on Friday and Saturday evenings with a variety of good home cooking using fresh local produce.
1.5 miles from Hayton Village is Hayton Farmshop and café with a recently opened private swimming pool and hot tub available for booking by the hour . Due to its’ high demand we recommend booking with Gelt House Farm, Hayton well in advance of your stay.
The local area abounds with scenic walks, from a charming woodland path beside the “Wild” River Gelt (with parking by Middle Gelt Bridge just over a mile way ) to the equally wild and dramatic footpaths on the North Pennine fells above Castle Carrock 3.5 miles from Hayton . Talkin Tarn Country Park at an equal distance is a glacial lake surrounded by ancient woodland and with easy paths, shop and tearoom.
For those who enjoy the challenge of a hilly terrain , our area makes a good cycling venue with plenty of long and short scenic rides. Hadrian’s Cycleway, Route 72 runs through the village.
The Gincase at Castle Hill Hayton , being close to the A69 and M6 motorway, is ideally located to explore North Cumbria , the Lake district , the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Hadrian’s wall.
