This was an incredible value. 4 bedrooms for what we paid is unbelievable for the Vineyard during peak season (August). My mother and I stayed a week and were very comfortable. The place was perfectly clean. It’s about a 20 minute walk to downtown Vineyard Haven. We rented a car and parked on the side of the house. I would absolutely stay here again. It’s an old place but honestly it was charming.
This stay was just what we were looking for: some old house charm located a bit out of town to keep things quiet, and still a short walk to the water. Our hosts Mark and George were friendly and got us squared away during check in and check out without issue. Plenty of space inside and a nice large porch to relax on. This isn’t a five-star spot but it doesn’t need to be - still a good option and value for a week on the island.
The hosts were extremely welcoming and easy to communicate with. The home however was not what we expected at all. The smell of mildew and mold was overwhelming and the condition of the furniture was unacceptable. Everything was torn, overly used and reeked of mold. The sight of the shower alone was enough to make anyone run the other direction. We unfortunately couldn’t stay in the home due to an allergic reaction to the mold/mildew and had to leave immediately. The house is in a great location but unfortunately unlivable. The hosts were very understanding when we told them we had to leave.
The home is more rustic and old then the pictures portray. The couch and chair were very worn so we covered them with our own blankets out of concern for cleanliness. The rugs in the bathroom and bedrooms definitely need to be removed due to outdated and dirty. The space was very large, sunny with large windows. The porch wraps around front of house and offers a great place to sit. It would not take much to make this home amazing because the location is perfect. You can walk 300' down the road to the beach or bike/walk a mile into the town center.
Whether you plan to visit during peak season or when the island is a little less crowded, there’s plenty of activities to keep you entertained throughout your entire trip. July and August are the busiest months with Fourth of July and Labor Day bringing in the biggest weekend crowds.
Come here to celebrate the holidays or simply enjoy the beaches, hiking, dining, shopping, and other area attractions. Explore the Atlantic and spend the day on the South Shore or the North Shore along the Nantucket Sound for calmer waters. Go boating, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, book a fishing excursion, or simply lounge on the beach and soak up the sun.
Stroll along the downtown streets stopping in at farmers markets, boutiques, gift shops, and art galleries. If perusing isn’t your thing, book a tee time at one of the beautiful golf courses. Afterward, listen to live music at island bars, nightclubs, and restaurants.
Be sure to try the local cuisine as you are sure to find something that will please your taste buds. Restaurants range from lobster-in-the-rough to world-class gourmet. Bon Appétit!
During the summer months, experience the community and watch firework shows, enjoy the Agricultural Fair, or attend the Vineyard Artisans Summer Festival to meet over 70 artisans and buy directly from them. See demonstrations and a variety of works including weaving, fine furniture, pottery, stained glass, oil paintings, pastels, mixed media, sculpture, wampum jewelry, quilts, clothing, sea glass windows, and handmade books.
