Arden Holiday Cottage has everything you need to relax and unwind in peaceful surroundings, nestled in a quiet rural location ideally situated for rambling, bird watching, climbing, horse riding & exploring the 7 Stanes. We're delighted to be voted the Best Self Catering Accommodation Experience in the 2023 South of Scotland Thistle Awards which celebrate the very best of the tourism and events industry. Bed linen and towels are provided in the price. We also offer a Geek Retreat short break and a Relax and Chill short break. Guests can also book our bespoke Escape Room experience during their stay which takes place in the cottage and is based on local folklore and history. Short breaks are available of 3/4 nights outside of high season . Check in days are Friday or Monday. If the cottage is closed due to government guidance connected to Covid-19 or if travel restrictions are put in place a refund will be given.

Heater was a tip top host, who managed the balance between information and privacy perfectly. She was very caring that we everything was right for us and indeed it was!
Hester's cottage was super clean and cozy! Hester was so friendly and always there to help us out. The place was surrounded by beautiful nature, which made it even more special. I totally recommend this hidden gem for a wonderful and relaxing stay!
Hester’s place was warm, very clean and inviting. Ideal for our family of three kids under 12 with a twin and single room for the kids and double for parents. Cottage is set in nice very peaceful surroundings. At times all you could hear were the birds, which was nice. If we had any negatives, I’d say the directions for finding the cottage could be a bit clearer and more detailed as we initially went to wrong location and had to ask someone. Wi-Fi is also a bit patchy which is not a big deal for us, but may be for some. Overall, really nice place in a nice location and would visit again.
Hester was a brilliant host. Great rural location but still only 10 minutes to the centre of Dumfries. Really nice home and had everything we needed for our stay. Thanks, Kyle
We had a great stay, place was spotless, and Hester was always available when needed. Great location for a base when travelling into Dumfries for work. We all said that we would stay again in a heartbeat!

The local area is peaceful and rural where you can watch beautiful sunsets and get acquainted with the local wildlife. If mountain biking is your thing then the cottage is centrally located for four of the 7 Stanes Mountain Bike trails, and we have secure lock up for your bikes and a bike wash facility. As Galloway is known for its dark skies we have a telescope to view the constellations on clear nights . Bird watchers can visit many sites in the area to view birds like the Red Kite and Barnacle goose. There is also lots of walking, from gentle strolls to strenuous hikes . Dumfries is about fifteen minutes drive and provides shops, restaurants, pubs and an ice rink and the Robbie Burns Museum. There are may tourist attractions like the Cream of Galloway, Aviation Museum and Mabie Farm park . There is a train station in Dumfries but a car or Taxi would be needed to reach the cottage as it isn't on a bus route.
