Commanding view off your porch of Chisos mountains. If you look south west you can see Santa Elena canyon in the far distance. Very quiet but still have excellent cell phone reception. Folks who would enjoy this type of lodging are folks with a camper's spirit looking for an upgrade. The toilet was easy to use if a bit awkward. In the managing expectations department, be aware that the whole area is water scarce. Out of respect we were conservative with water use. It's a desert duh. Also, rural areas have piles of stuff they might need later so it's around, but the porch views are precious. Mel has the cabin well stocked: Coffee mugs , wine glasses, cocktail shaker. good pans good knives, wine opener, and olive oil and seasonings and some plates. There were bottles of water when we arrived even though the faucet water tasted fine. She also had plenty of paper products to use to avoid using water. The induction stove and the propane grill worked great.

Mel’s place is fantastic!! The cabin is perfectly located for a trip to visit Big Bend NP and Terlingua/Study Butte. The pictures are accurate, but it is even more beautiful than the pictures can capture. Mel has thoughtfully equipped the cabin and provided all amenities for an enjoyable stay in the desert surroundings. I am a bed snob and this is one of the nicest AirBnB beds I’ve slept in. Great pillows and linens as well. Mel’s artistic touch is evident everywhere, even in the outdoor shower, which is the perfect way to wash off the dust following a day of hiking in BBNP! This is one of my best AirBnB experiences and I highly recommend!

Hello Melanie, We enjoyed staying at Mel’s Place. It was private with only a few people in a tent 200 meters away. Our little house had everything it needed … and some special things like the bed outside to watch the sky at night or the sunrise, an outside shower … We also liked the quitness… no sound bit the wind. Melanie was very kind and responded quickly on our questions. The small book she wrote about the environment was very helpfull to find a shop, a good restaurant etc. We will often think about our stay there … it was amazing! Kathleen and Pascal Belgium

The cabin was absolutely beautiful! I love Melanie’s style in the way the cabin was painted and decorated, the views, the outside bed for star gazing/sunrise. There is so much to love here, this cabin is special. If we ever make our way back to Terlingua, this is exactly where we would like to stay. Highly recommend!!!
