Highly recommended Airbnb. We thoroughly enjoyed our more than a month stay. Wonderful two-bedroom place, with well-stocked kitchen, laundry area, and bathroom supplies. Many thoughtful items in apartment making a month-long stay easy. Very easy to make ourselves feel at home almost immediately. Location was perfect for us. Close to a variety of interesting restaurants on 18th Street; Mom&Pop markets and larger supermarkets, when needed; also easy access to UCSF Mission Bay, which was important for us. Street parking wasn’t ever a problem. While walking about Potrero Hill neighborhood, there were truly wonderful views of San Francisco and Bay in all directions. Only real challenge was the way in which the Smart TV was situated in the spacious living/dining room; the late-afternoon and early-evening glare from front windows made viewing difficult. The only other annoyance was the fluttering noise emerging from the CD/radio in the bedroom. All is all, a great place to stay.
Nice 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor. As mentioned parking has never been an issue, and the location is great for downtown access. The downtown views from a few blocks will make great memories. The kid related toys and puzzles have been very handy for us. Irene is very responsive to your questions and requests.
Comfortable place, very good location and responsive and accommodating host. Our 2 kids really made this place their home during our month long stay here. Would definitely recommend this place!
Irene is an amazing host. She is very responsive and will do everything to make your stay confortable. This apartment is perfect for a family of 3. It is located on top of Potrero Hill. That neighborhood offers stunning views!. Definitely one of our favorite area in SF. We needed to move in as soon as possible, and she made it work by rescheduling the maids and the contractors so we can move in the same day the other tenants left. It was a great experience. Thanks Irene for your kindness!
From the Airport
San Francisco Airport is not in San Francisco so wherever you stay, you will need to take public transportation, a taxi, or a shuttle from the airport to your accommodations. Taxis or private car services, depending on how many is in your party, it may be cheaper than a shuttle, which charges by the person. If you are driving or renting a car, a navigation tool like Garmin or Tom Tom will be very helpful to have. If you are traveling with children, see the section below for more important information.
Driving Here
Be aware of signs throughout San Francisco! There are restrictions that may not be posted at your parking stall but instead are posted somewhere along the street (example is street cleaning signs).
Note that the meters in San Francisco require $0.25 coins or a pre-paid card to pay for your parking (more and more are accepting credit cards, but not all do). The nearest place to buy the pre-paid MTA cards from the rental is at the Whole Foods Market (399 4th Street, San Francisco 94107 – cross street is at Harrison).
This rental does not have a garage but there is plenty of street parking all around (free with no time limit).
The following are some guidelines in consideration of neighbors:
a.Park on the street. Please do not block neighbors’ driveways.
b.Park at right angles on the east side of De Haro Street. Try to park so as to leave room for five (instead of four) cars in front of the house.
c.There are some spots (mostly between driveways) nearby that accommodate two cars. Please park to allow this as opposed to parking right in the middle which then allows only one car to park.
d.Be mindful of posted street cleaning days, in this area it is from 12 noon to 2 pm our side of the street on Wednesdays then on Mondays on the opposite side of the street. The street cleaner comes promptly but you can usually park in the affected area shortly after the street cleaner has been through. You just need to be mindful of where you can’t park due to street cleaning (like everywhere else in San Francisco). On street cleaning days, there is less parking and you usually don't find parking right in front of the house, but there is plenty of parking up and down the street.
e.Be careful when backing out. It’s a good idea to check for traffic from the top of the knoll before leaving.
f.Please curb your wheels (turn towards pavement) when parking on slopes in San Francisco. You can get a ticket violation for this.
g.Be sure to use your handbrake (even with an automatic transmission).
h.Please remember not to leave your belongings in the car when you park here or anywhere in San Francisco Always lock your vehicle & arm it with your alarm (if available).
i.If you are arriving late at night when everyone is home from work, there may be less parking but one can be found within a block or two.
Taking the Bus
We have a bus line that stops right at the corner from us (#19). It is very convenient to get to anywhere in San Francisco since it brings you by the underground subway at Civic Center Plaza that connects to all the main bus lines. Keep in mind that on the return bus trip, the bus stop is at Rhode Island and Southern Heights and you have a two block walk to get back to the rental. The #10, #22, and #48 bus lines are also within walking distance.
If you feel comfortable taking the buses and trains while you are here it should be fine (you don’t need a car although some great attractions are only accessible by car so you may want to consider renting a car for some of your time her). There are print outs of the bus schedule at the rental if you need to look up the schedule. You can plan out your travels by public transportation, including fares. It is a great idea to plan out your San Francisco destinations if you are new to the City and will be taking public transportation at this website: http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?#tab1Selected (or an alternative is to use Google's' public transit mapping tool)
If you will be mainly taking public transportation, consider getting a Passport which gives you unlimited rides for a set number of days. More information on these can be found here: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mcust/custtips.htm
The fares to the bus (Muni) and cable cars can be found here: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/fareinfo.htm
Be sure to get a transfer as proof of payment whenever you take the bus. The transfer also allows you to board other buses as long as it has not expired yet (usually you are given about an hour)
Families Traveling with Children
We do have car seat laws for children under 8 years of age and you may be required to bring a car seat with you if you are driving or are taking the taxi. For more information, please visit http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27360.htm
Only, if you’re traveling to or from SFO, neither taxicabs or shuttle services are required to have car seats, and very few will be able to accommodate you if you need one. Private car services are almost as cheap as taxis (about $60 each way to SFO, not including gratuity), and usually have car seats for you if you call at least 24 hours in advance. The two most popular services locally are Bauer’s Transportation, 415-522-1212, bauerslimousine.com, and City Limousine of San Francisco, 415-956-1006, citylimosf.com (this is for a Towncar, not a stretch limo). Please call to confirm the information I've given you as I have not had personal experience with this myself.
