Sherwood is a large spacious homestead, ideal for family gatherings and group holidays. The surrounding land and woods offer nature therapy in abundance and the privacy and peace are hard to rival. Many a memorable and magical holiday gathering has been had at here. If spending time with a group of family, friends and loved ones is your wish, Sherwood has proven her worth as a venue for every season and all occasions. Sherwood is an Irish farmhouse with a twist of Walton's Mountain - it has a delightful adjoining cabin that is spacious (8m x 6m), drenched in light and makes for a great communal space for gatherings family and friends. The main house is characterful and quirky - if you need straight lines, predictable decor and pristine shine, I would gently suggest you may need to look on for somewhere more in keeping with your requirements. If staying somewhere down-to-earth, wholesome, ambient and evolving is your buzz, then I'd love to host you! Sherwood in the process of making an exciting transition from her life as an organic farm for 25 yrs to a retreat centre with a focus on natural medicine and nature therapy. As a work-in-progress, it is far from finished and polished. If however, you are willing to enjoy it, warts and all, then it is a place with a big heart, incredible peace and solace, great views, lots of exploring and honest rustic charm. At times there may be guests staying in the adjacent studio cottage but with both spaces being entirely separate households, there is plenty of space and privacy for all.

Wir waren als Familie für 6 Tage in der Unterkunft. Freya war in dieser Zeit verreist. Sie war für uns per Mail zu erreichen, hat schnell auf Fragen geantwortet und es war zusätzlich noch ein Ansprechpartner vor Ort für uns erreichbar. Das Haus liegt mitten in der Natur, der Blick aus den vielen Fenstern im Wintergarten auf den märchenhaften Garten ist wunderschön. Im Haus stehen in jedem Zimmer Pflanzen. Zusammen mit der Holzeinrichtungen und der besonderen Dekoration ist es gemütlich und besonders im Haus. Das war schön für uns. Gleichzeitig gibt es im Haus mehrere Dinge, die zu renovieren sind. Auf den Kissen und Sofas im Wintergarten sind Flecken, auf dem Teppich sind Tierhaare. Es gibt Spinnweben an Fenstern und Türen. Das alles hat uns überrascht als wir angekommen sind. Wegen Freyas Beschreibung, dass das Haus charaktervoll und skurril ist, haben wir das Haus gebucht. Für uns hat es im ganzen als Unterkunft bedauerlicherweise nicht gepasst.
What a wee gem. From the moment we pulled up Freya made us feel more like we were borrowing a friend's place than a soulless holiday rental. The setting, tucked away at the end of a track, makes it feel very private, nestled in glorious woods and farmland, but it's not at all isolated. The house is a home and all the better for it. The wood cabin is much larger and lighter than the photos suggest and frankly I'd be there right now drinking coffee sitting on the cabin steps and counting butterflies if I could. Its quirks might not be for everyone, but if you're looking for warmth, peace, and a big fat beautiful dose of nature I can't recommend it highly enough. I did hesitate over a rave review because I'd rather keep it to myself, but rave I must. We (family of 4, 2 older teenagers) loved it.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the uniqueness of Freyas’ home. The setting was very peaceful and we felt right at home enjoying the warm the of the wood stoves. Freya was a very responsive and kind host and we were greatly blessed by the help and tasty venison of her friend, Dan. Thank you Freya!
A child's wonderland. A big bright sun room that opened out into the garden was perfect for the kids. A second living room to squirrel away in the evenings after some very full days. We had freedom to roam and be free at Sherwood. The views, the nature setting and Chester the dog made this place a quiet little oasis from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The shun shone for our 10 days in summer and we enjoyed eating Al fresco and exploring the garden and outdoors. It's a kirky magical escape. I now need a second living room and a dog. Thanks Freya and Sherwood!!
We enjoyed our time staying in Freya's lovely house. This is our second time staying there because we liked the place so much when we stayed the last time. Freya is a very good host because she responds to any query quickly If you like a quiet place to stay, off the beaten track we recommend Sherwood Botanical Eden

Dunmanway is at the hub of the wheel with all the surrounding towns of Clonakilty, Bandon, Bantry, Skibbereen and Macroom all radiating 30 mins out from it. There is a new sports centre complete with a swimming pool, Sam Maguire's homestead by way of historical interest, Funmanway with paintballing and various bonkers activities for those that like a challenge and Sherwood Healing Arts Clinic to book a massage or acupuncture treatment to complete your holiday package.
Unless you are a hardcore cyclist or ardent and ambitious walker, you really will need a car. Besides, with such a smorgasbord of delights to feast on around West Cork, you would miss out on some real treats without. Whether town festivals, cute coves, dignified dining, quintessential pubs, craic on the streets or fine local cuisine is your thing, it's all here in abundance. West Cork is an Aladdin's Cave of delights - and with a spirit of adventure, a trusty map and an open heart - literally, anything is possible!
