Mountview cottage is a traditional stone cottage dating back to 1800. It has always been in our family. we try to keep all the charms of a cottage with all modern convenience added. It has a large conservatory that you can sit in and enjoy the sea views. It also has a well kept private enclosed garden . Hot tub is on your private decking looking out too sea. the village and shops are just a short 15/20 minute walk. We do accept dogs please contact us there is a small charge incurred. We are a small family business with over 30 years experience we pride ourselves on hospitality and and high standard of cleanliness .
The house was absolutely perfect, could not have asked for a better location and the house had everything we needed including plenty of firewood! Friendly host and neighbours who stopped when they saw us to check we were okay after the unexpected snow. A brilliant week and would happily stay again!
It was probably not the best time to visit, with Storm Babet sweeping the country. But the cottage was just lovely and very cosy. The hosts dealt sympathetically and efficiently with minor weather related issues (Storm Babet definitely gets the blame). The surrounding area is just stunning, with beaches, rivers and mountains a-plenty and this cottage is perfectly placed as a base to enjoy them all. It really could not have been more comfortable, nor could Roy and Suzy have been more friendly.
We stayed here for our honeymoon and the house was wonderful. Upon arrival we received a welcome pack and a lovely card. A nice touch was that rose petals had been put on the bed too. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and the kitchen had every utensil and piece of equipment you could ask for (and more - there was even a milk frother!). the hot tub was brilliant and the views out onto the loch were beautiful. we also used the infra red sauna (slight charge) which was brilliant too. Our dogs absolutely loved the large enclosed garden as well. Overall we could not have asked for a better holiday to start our married life together. Thank you Roy and Suzy.

A little about Lochinver
Lochinver's village and fishing port is a t the heart of Assynt in Sutherland – a drive of approximately two hours from Inverness.
Lochinver (Loch an Inbhir in Gaelic) is a village on the coast in the Assynt district of Sutherland, Highland, Scotland. A few miles northeast is Loch Assynt, which is the source of the River Inver, which flows into Loch Inver at the village. There are 200 or so lochans in the area, which makes the place very popular with anglers. Lochinver is dominated by the “sugar loaf” shape of Caisteal Liath, the summit peak of nearby Suilven.
Lochinver is the second largest fishing port in Scotland; frequented by European fishermen primarily from Spain and France. Lochinver underwent a major renewal project in the 1990s where the harbour area was rebuilt and a new and much improved loading area was created. This new development involved blasting an area of several hectares out of the surrounding rock. At present the area is mostly undeveloped, with the exception a new Sports Centre.
The back of Lochinver is a beautiful part of Assynt with local tourism and nature areas being developed in conjunction with small-scale forestry activities. Birdlife in Lochinver includes the curlew, oystercatcher and hooded crow.
Other local villages worth mentioning include Inverkirkaig – accessed by the road leading up the River Culag – and on the coastal road north:
Achmelvich, Clashmore, Stoer, Clashnessie, Drumbeg and Culkein Drumbeg.
In the 1890s, it was suggested that a railway be constructed from Invershin to Lochinver to ‘open up’ the Highlands and provide a direct rail connection with ferries to the Western Isles. This scheme was an alternative to a proposed route to Ullapool from Garve. In the event, neither were able to obtain funding.
