Overall we had an OK stay but I feel that the listing was not accurate at all. The AirBnB listing references the "main house" and the "tiny house" but makes no mention of the "carriage house" which is apparently an entirely different rental only a few feet away from the big house. So during our stay, there were 3 different groups staying in very close proximity. Not only was this not the private vacation we were looking for but there were some awkward moments with respect to parking because the properties are on a long flag lot with limited parking (needed to double park) and nothing was communicated to us. If I go to downeast Maine, I don't want to be squashed on top of other people! Other than this major issue, the other thing I'll note is that several of the electrical receptacles in the main house had issues (broken face plate and damaged receptacle). This was not safe, especially for children. Other than those two issues, the house was clean and in good shape.

The house was fine and pretty much as described, but it was expensive. We wanted early August in Castine, and we were out of options, so we took it. That we could bring our dogs was huge. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, which is important, as our family likes to cook. The bathrooms and kitchen were sparkling, clean, and the linens were fine. The beds were very comfortable.

This home in Castine is lovely - close to everything in this small town so you can walk around with the exception of groceries that are 5-30 minutes away by car. The house has 5 very generous sized bedrooms over 3 floors; the second floor is the main living space so you have lovely views of the sea from the balcony. Everything was clean; a few things were not in working order (a blind had fallen) and Ted fixed the issue the same day we let him know. The kitchen is well equipped with a table that can easily accommodate 8-10 people. We cooked all our meals in the house, baked bread and pies, and found all the things we needed (did bring our own chef's knife as we always do). The gardens are well maintained and full of flowers. We took full advantage of Ted's excellent local guide - - also discovered the Blue Hill Coop for local veggies; the Bagaduce Lunch counter for excellent lobster rolls and milk shakes; delicious lobsters ($4.50/lbs!!) and local oysters at Coldwater Seafood in Stonington. Castine is a bit out of the way but a very beautiful place; we walked our dogs every evening and enjoyed identifying the constellations in the night sky.

We enjoyed our stay in Castine, and were really pleased with the choice of that location. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood, with views of water and a very short walk to paths in Witherlie Woods, which were great for early walks with the dog, as well as the tip of the peninsula and lighthouse. The house had plenty of linens including towels, comfortable living-dining-kitchen area with a balcony that had outdoor bbq and burner that worked great for lobster.

We are a family of nine - age range from 11 to 77 - and had a wonderful weeklong stay at Ted's house. We had plenty of room to spread out in this 3 story eclectic house. It really felt like home when we returned from our many adventures, including, kayaking from the Castine harbor, golfing at the local club, traveling to Acadia/Bar Harbor, hiking in the local "woods". There was one thing that was unexpected... after reading the previous reviews, I assumed that there was a lawn in front of the house for playing badminton, etc. but that space has been replaced by an additional rental house. There was plenty to do and see without that lawn, but just wanted to mention it so when you are packing to come to Ted's house (and you definitely should!) you can leave those croquet sets at home.
