Otisfield · 整套民居 · 3室5床2.0卫 · 可住8人 · Brand new family home 3BR Sleeps 8
Built in 2014, this real-life, actually-lived-in home is ready to be your home away from home. There's lots of space for up to 8 people in 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus 4 separate spaces for hanging out (living room, screen porch, yoga studio, and front garden/lawn). Welcome to Otisfield - 5 minutes to Oxford, 10 to Norway, and 20 to Bridgton: Close to beaches, lakes, rivers, hiking trails, cycling routes, live theater, live music, restaurants and whatever else you are looking for. This is is brand new home. The timberframe holds the main room together - kitchen, dining area and living space. Big south facing triple pane windows bring in the warmth in the winter, but in the summer let in light, not heat, so the house stays cool. Super-insulation & virtually airtight construction mean the space is a comfortable temperature the year round with very little additional heating or cooling needed. That said, there is a heat pump for heating and cooling, and bedrooms and bathrooms each have supplemental heat (if you want to get your bathtub experience nice and warm.) We've used Airbnb a few times over the past few years, and we've noticed a tendency for homes and apartments to feel like boutique hotel rooms not homes. Well ... this is a home. It is lived in. Our stuff is everywhere. Of course, we'll move some of our stuff out of the way so you have room for yours. But know this: it will not be a barren wasteland. Our books are on the shelf. Our 9 year's old toys are in her room. There will be food in the cabinets (which you are welcome to use.). Welcome to Otisfield.
Michael’s home was large, lovely, and perfectly located for our needs. We appreciated the unique touches like the swing in the kitchen, and the beautiful yard. However, the house is probably not ideal for larger groups. With one bedroom closed for cats, we had two people in the master bedroom, two in the downstairs bedroom, and three in the living room (2 on a pullout bed, and one on the couch). While the living room hideaway couch was comfortable, the upstairs futon was quite uncomfortable. We were in town for a wedding, and had a few groups of people arriving from out of town. This made check-in a little difficult. The home is probably best for people who know exactly when they will be arriving and exactly when they will be departing. It was not clear until the day of check-in that we would need to personally meet the host to get the key, or that he expected us to be available for a half hour tour when we did arrive. So in our case, a couple arrived before 4:30 (the host indicated a preference for 4:30 as the family was headed out at 5 for the weekend) and when they tried to leave just before 5 (for a wedding rehearsal) the host was frustrated that the couple wasn’t prepared to dedicate the time he’d like for the tour.
Very quiet and peaceful locations, we just love going here! A true vacation week! Lots within a short distance to see and do or just relax in the comfort of the home!
Great experience, reliable and friendly host. I forgot my sister's bag when I left, Michael found it and offered to send it.
The house is amazing! Our daughter loved watching the chickens in the morning and we enjoyed sitting on the porch at night. We also enjoyed reading about the eco-friendly construction of the house. Very inspiring!
This home was so peaceful! It is completely private and had a nice hammock and screamed porch to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We had fresh tomatoes from the garden and fresh flowers on the table. Not to mention there was an indoor swing! If you are looking to get away, you won’t be disappointed!
Otisfield, Maine is a beautiful small town about an hour north of Portland. You're a few minutes from the Oxford Hills area (Oxford, Norway & South Paris) and within an hour driving distance of the Mt. Washington Valley in NH, the Bethel, Maine area and the coast of Maine. If you want a more rural experience, bring your hiking boots or cross country skis and head out the back door.
You'll absolutely need one of the following: Car, motorcycle, bike, horse, snowmobile, or cross country skis. Hitchhiking to the area is possible, but getting right to our door that way might be tricky. We are on the snowmobile trail so that is a real option. There's no public transit out here. No Uber. No Lyft. They'll drop you off but they won't pick you up ;)
