Various places of interest can be accessed from Fonteiskloof.
Swellendam is the 3rd oldest town in South Africa and has interesting historical buildings and churches and cosy coffee shops and restaurants where local cuisine is available.
Not far from Swellendam you will find the Bonnievale /Robertson Wine route where the local wines can be tasted . This route is exceptionally beautiful in Spring/Summer when the flowers are in bloom. One can relax beside the river or under the trees and enjoy the local wines at various farms in the area.
The most southerly point of Africa is Cape Aghulas which is a 2 hour drive and one can simultaneously visit the beaches of Struis Baai or Arniston, which are local fishing villages and worth a visit.
The Bontebok antelope game park is 20 minutes drive from the farm and one can see Bontebok in there indigenous habitat as the Swellendam Overberg area is home to the Bontebok which is a beautiful and protected specie .
A scenic and interesting circular drive to view the village of Suurbraak , and then over the breathtaking Tradouw pass on your way to the interesting town of Barrydale where you can enjoy a coffee . From Barrydale head off on the R62 to the picturesque town of Montague which is a typical Karoo town . The R62 takes you into the Karoo , giving you the opportunity to view this interesting but totally different area with its karoo like vegetation that includes sparse bushes , the odd tree and specific grasses with the occasional hill in a semi desert environment. The Karoo has a beauty of it own and Montague is a an exceptionally quaint and beautiful town on the outskirts of the Karoo. From Montague head towards Ashton and just before Ashton pick up the R60 towards Swellendam and FONTEINSKLOOF is 35 kms from Ashton which will complete a magnificent round trip that will take a leisurely 4 hours.
