Heina Nature Resort which is located just outside the Yala National Park, is an eco home surrounded by beautiful lakes, rivers, the jungle and archeological sites, nested in two acre land at Yala Kataragama which is a small village located in the finest edge of the lower southern corner of the island, is one of the most visited, sacred pilgrimage sites for Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Veddah communities of Sri Lanka, and also the closest point of entry to the main entrance of Yala National Park. The resort is about 240 km from Colombo, 38 km from the Mattala Rajapakshe International Airport, 10 minutes walk to historic Kataragama temple and only 15 minutes drive from Yala National Park main entrance (Yala Block 1, Yala Block 3 and Yala Block 5) Heina, which has two exclusively designed chalets with all modern luxury amenities in a rustic style adjoining Goyagala lake, gives the illusion of being cut off from the civilization due to its unique location. Amazing experience.
Heina is a place for rustic experience combined with necessary urban convenience. check-in was a breeze. Anura was a great host with tips for local stuff. Friendly staff who prepared great breakfast. Getting there can be tricky if you have a huge car - which we did and topped it with checking in at middle of the night. But it was taken care of too... will recommend the place!
Unforgettable. We came to Sri Lanka with hopes of a nice holiday and left with heads full of memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. To feel so close to nature and all its sights and sounds was perfect, to do it in an eco-lodge with great facilities just adds to that. Heina gave us the warmest of welcomes, great food and a safari that just couldn't be beaten. Staff are attentive yet discrete, flexible around your timings and in typical Sri Lankan style, warm and generous with their smiles. The property is simply designed to fit into the landscape, the chalets are comfortable with AC and mosquito nets, showering under the stars is also an experience not to miss. You are surrounded by wildlife, hornbills, parrots and peacocks in the grounds, buffalo and many more bird species in the nearby lake area. Yala national park is a short ride away and we took a dawn to dusk safari guided by the amazing Bhagya, a man with eyes like an eagle and the greatest of respect for the animals and environment (which is more than can be said from many of the other drivers we witnessed) - elephants, crocodiles, monkeys, buffalo, deer, countless birds and the magnificent leopard were all captured by our cameras. We also visited the nearby temples at Kataragama, another perfect evening. All in all we can't recommend Heina highly enough, great setting, great service, great value and an all around great experience. We would go back in a heartbeat.
