Nethy Bridge · 整套民居 · 4室2床2.0卫 · 可住8人 · Dell Lodge
Dell Lodge is one of six properties available for booking at The Dell of Abernethy. Originally built in 1780, it has recently undergone a beautiful restoration; stripped back to its core and introduced to simple luxury and quirky furnishing. Accommodating up to eight guests, Dell Lodge sits strong with sun filled views south to the Cairngorms and now offers a wonderful accommodation. The "big house" is incredible - a wonderful, thoughtful and sensitive renovation. Country style modern luxury with space, comfort and with stunning, stripped back class. Enter the lodge through the south facing sun-filled porch packed with geraniums and into the high ceiling Georgian rooms of the original family home. Through the cosy lounge with vintage library and wood burning stove and into the large dining kitchen with long farmhouse table exposed original pine beams and granite walls. Back at the entrance you will find a second living space which is ideal for movie nights, music sessions and games next to the fire. From the entrance hall a grand winding staircase leads you past a beautiful timber lined wet room, a traditional bathroom with claw foot bath and up to the first floor. Here there are two large king-size double rooms with brass beds, duck down duvets, stripped pitch pine floors and elegant cornicing. Upstairs again to two sweet Victorian doubles in the eaves, both with additional single beds and great views south to the Cairngorms
Lovely homely cottage in a beautiful setting. Everything was as described. Estate was located very conveniently for access to Nethy Bridge and surrounding areas.
Dell Lodge is the perfect place to stay for a countryside getaway. The house is magnificent and clean and the woodlands that surround the property are stunning. Definitely worth a visit.
Dell Lodge was the perfect place to spend Christmas. The house was thoughtfully decorated and cozy, great for lazy days lounging around the fire. The location was a great base for exploring the Highlands, whether a walk in the woods just outside the front door, or a short drive to a village, distillery, castle, or loch. Polly and Ross were quite helpful, answering questions before our trip and sharing local tips while we were there. I definitely recommend requesting the fire pit for an evening! As a group of 8 adults, we especially appreciated the well-appointed kitchen. It's not often that houses have pots and pans big enough to feed a large group. I'd definitely come back!
Dell Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. We were there on a family holiday, with 4 adults and 3 children. It was the perfect place to explore the Cairngorms and surrounding area. The accommodation is very comfortable for a large group and the hosts are exceptional! Chocolate Brownies on arrival were just the icing on the cake. The kids loved playing on the Zip line and we enjoyed some lovely walks in the area. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay at Dell Lodge again!
We visited for a long weekend with a group of 6 and enjoyed amazing walks, trekking up the nearby Ben Macdui, and attended a lovely event being held one night at the teepee onsite, complete with homemade cider, curry and live music! The house itself was amazing! We were met with a warm welcome and given a tour of the wonderful property. All rooms are furnished to a very high standard. Unique design, yet functional at the same time. We loved the place! Polly and Ross were great hosts, so friendly and welcoming! If you're looking to spend a peaceful holiday in the heart of nature, staying at a beautiful family home, this is the place for you.
The Dell sits in three acres of mature grounds, dominated by the enormous back lawn and surrounded by 200-year-old towering trees.
The Dell was originally built to house the head forester of Seafield Estate who kindly planted many of the different species towering head and shoulders above the house today. Beech and Copper Beech, Horse Chestnut, Oak and the fragrant Lime, which has been known to ‘calm ones nerves by simply walking beneath’
The Dell was also once home to William Forsyth, author of ‘In the Shadow of Cairngorm’ a good solid holiday read published in 1900 describing the people and legends of the area as they were at that time.
In the 1960’s the Dell was bought by John and Elizabeth Fleming who saved the building then riddled with rot and carefully set about restoring and converting it into the business it is today. Son John took the helm on their retirement, followed by granddaughter Polly and husband Ross who look after the business now.
Sitting just out with the village and in amongst the grazing fields the Dell presents a very peaceful spot.
The former Seafield nursery and the expansive Abernethy Forest provide a network of wonderful winding footpaths, most of which are also great on a bike and even better with a dog. (Please note that during nesting season, early March – late July it’s best to keep your dog close by or on a lead)
Nethy bridge village centre is a 20-minute walk from the Dell either by riverside walk, forest wander or scenic amble down the road taking in some of the beautiful architecture of old Nethy.
The village, which has been a popular holiday favourite since the Victorian times remains unspoilt and is a quiet, friendly place.
The River Nethy tumbles down through the village and is crossed by one of Telford’s great bridges.
Alongside a very well stocked village store, there is a fantastic butcher which offers wonderful local meats and a good selection of fresh vegetables. Nethy Cafe, just next door to the butchers, is a great little hang out spot with delicious lunches, coffees and home bakes. The local fish and chip van visits Nethy on a Monday evening and Highland Slice Pizza horse box on a Friday evening and there is also the Nethy hotel with a restaurant and bar.
Activity wise, there is a tennis court, bowling green, a beautiful 9 hole golf course and a small swimming pool at the Abernethy Outdoor Centre. Explore Abernethy have marked out 45km of trails around the village and have a great visitor centre and ranger service in the village hall.
Nethy Bridge is great base for exploring the Cairngorm National Park and beyond.
Our nearest airport is Inverness (45 minutes drive) where there are several options of car hire. Aviemore is the nearest train station to us (20 minutes drive) and there are local buses that pick up and drop in Nethy Bridge village centre (1 mile) We recommend you have a car for your visit to us to allow you to experience the area in full.
