Award-winning with a uniquely contemporary design over 2 floors, this accommodation appeals to families and couples. Orlege End has the most spacious kitchen, living and dining area of the 3 self-catering smaller properties offered by Crosswoodhill Farm Holiday Cottages near Edinburgh. This is a truly relaxing “home” on a sheep farm on the Pentland Hills, just a 35 minute scenic drive into the heart of Edinburgh. G, the helpful owner, lives on the farm. Check the bedroom layouts suit you. Guests absolutely love this house but one thing you need to be aware of before you book if there are more than 2 or 3 of you. Upstairs is a bedroom with either 3 single beds or a kingsize bed and a single. And beside this upstairs bedroom, there is an ensuite with a shower and bath. Outside this bedroom door is a gallery area with a sofa bed; this would be quite an exposed area to sleep in and would only be used by a 6th guest. Downstairs is the unusual arrangement which you can partly see in the photos. At the back of the living / dining area is a very let down comfortable double bed with a spring mattress. A double sided curtain can be drawn right across the room to give visual privacy and block out all light, but if others are still in the living area sounds can be heard. This sleeping area has an openable window and an ensuite toilet with a shower and bath. So please bear in mind this slight sleeping compromise if there are more than 3 of you and a couple need to sleep downstairs. Very useful for guests with mobility problems.

We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend G’s Orlege! We stayed as two couples (and a small dog) over new years and it was a very comfortable stay. The accommodation is larger than expected and was super peaceful and quiet in a beautiful location. It is within very easy reach of Edinburgh and takes only about a 30-40min drive. G was very friendly and helpful and set everything up and also gave recommendations for going into Edinburgh. There is also lots of information about what to do for pretty much anything in the house that you may need which we found helpful.

G is friendly and looked after us very well. She checked on us frequently to see how we were settling in. She even offered for us to check out late as we have kids. Orlege end is lovely, warm and comfortable place with all the amenities needed for a holiday. Our whole family got ill with colds and coughs and we still drove 6hrs and we needed heating on all day and night . There was adequate heating and hot water Helped us keeping warm and recovered quickly. Such a comfort home and lovely Host to cheer us up We would love to come back again! Side note- Thanks G for the great tasting handmade Red currant jelly. Loved it! Highly recommended in West Calder.
Lovely accommodation - bright and spacious and well designed with lots of natural light. Perfect for a few nights away, outside of Edinburgh. Geraldine is lovely and a very informative and knowledgeable host.
Nice and peaceful home to stay with family. The house is equipped with all amenities what the listed on website including plenty of toys to entertain kids. Recommend!

Crosswoodhill Farm is very central to so many all-weather attractions. On our own Crosswoodhill website we have extensive pages of suggestions of places to visit, activities, etc. Glasgow, Stirling, the Borders, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are all an easy drive away, and West Lothian, our area has some hidden gems I would love to introduce you to. And 10 miles away there is a huge retail outlet in Livingston
A car really is essential here. The nearest public transport is in West Calder, 6 miles away. Here there is a good train service to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

As a penniless student and young person I loved travelling independently, mainly with the aid of my thumb, exploring different countries. Now I am older, the world comes to me. Since 1992 we have created 4 self-catering properties on Crosswoodhill Farm, all very different. Do explore our own Crosswoodhill website to get a flavour of each one, as if the Wing does not suit you, maybe one of the others will. And when you are here I am as helpful or as unobtrusive as you choose. My other job is as a trained nurse, a job I love . Everyone knows me as "G" though I do answer to Geraldine!
