This paddlers’ paradise is not your ordinary “camping spot.” A Lotus Belle yurt, fire pit and shaded hangout spot are nestled between horse paddocks and open fields, 40 feet above the Elkhorn Creek near Peaks Mill. You’ll be struck by the quiet here, like it’s just you, the fireflies and the creek—and the occasional whiny of a horse. Call it glamping, if you please. The waterproof-canvas yurt features a queen-sized bed with plush Casper mattress, premium bedding, two comfy chairs, reading light and power source so you can recharge in all ways after a long day of paddling. The privy is not one from your scout-camp memories, rather it’s an artful building, newly constructed from local and salvaged materials—an old redcedar snag that washed up from the Elkhorn, old barn tin, heart pine siding from a few counties away. A Yeti cooler, drinking water, simple breakfast ingredients, butane campstove, hand- and dish-washing station, towels and washcloths are at the ready, all so you can make your home away from home on the water. A copper firepit—firewood included—and hand-built dining table with benches complete your mini-vacay experience. **The yurt does not have heat, but there are plenty of blankets for chilly evenings. **There is no running water at the site.
