What a wonderful little solo getaway at Diane's Hidden Passage on Little Morongo. I was a tad anxious about the drive up Little Morongo as it is a dirt road, but my Prius handled it like a champ! As soon as I unpacked, I took a short walk up the creek bed and saw and heard all sorts of birds! (3 types of Quail, Verdin, Phainopepla and so many Sparrows, Finches and Wrens!) I stayed at Aphrodite Cottage which was private and perfect for me. It was super clean and the bed was really comfy. The sound of the flowing creek was wonderful to hear in the middle of the desert. You must make a stop at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve which is such a shady refuge home to many critters, birds and reptiles. (I spied a Vermilion Flycatcher and Downy Woodpecker among other birds!) Do not leave without going to Luna Sourdough Bakery in Yucca Valley! Absolutely the best croissants and brioche! I was a professional baker for over 15 years, trust me and thank me later! Diane was a perfect host!
