Rose Cottage is part of an old fulling mill (c. 1669) situated on the River Caldbeck in this peaceful, well served village. This semi detached property has been recently renovated, retaining beautiful period beams & fireplaces. On the Cumbria Way with fells, footpaths, bridleways & cycle routes from the doorstep. Rose Cottage benefits from being on the end of a quiet row of houses on a dead end road & a 2-3 min walk to the local pub, shop and cafes! Dog friendly. Cover photo: Garry Lomas. A bright, comfortable cottage with a downstairs open plan kitchen/diner/lounge area. Upstairs is the shower room and spacious master bedroom with king size bed and Dorma or Sheridan bedding. We have down bedding as default but also have synthetic bedding if you have any allergies or personal preference. Please let me know in advance and I will arrange this. There are spare blankets and duvets as well. The kitchen is well equipped - and if there’s something you need then please let us know! Relax in front of the log burner and put your feet up with a glass of wine and a film. The cottage overlooks the river so you are sure to have some scenic and peaceful views as you sip a nespresso at the breakfast bar or kitchen table and plan your day with the plentiful books and guides on offer. Crack your window at night and you can drift off to the river flowing past outside. We are very dog friendly and have completely separate throws and duvet sets for guests with or without dogs; the cottage is thoroughly cleaned between visits. Dogs are allowed on sofas and the bed for cuddles (because we also bring ours up to bed with a pot of coffee on the weekend!) - but please help us out by washing/towelling them off first with the warm dog shower or in the river and using throws. If can help with free dog sitting or walking then please message me to see what we can arrange. We provide towels and blankets, stainless steel bowls and treats and a tick removal tool. Please let us know if you’ve forgotten a lead or collar as we have plenty of items for loan. We have the basics for babies and toddlers up to 2 years of age (bath and stair gate stored under small bedroom bed, fire guard stored under sofa, booster seat available on request and plug socket covers and child proof lock for under sink cupboard ). Please be aware the garden is not yet fully fenced and there is open water and drop offs to the river. Parking is free on the roadside - please see check in instructions for photos so you can make sure to avoid the grass or neighbours’ parking spaces. We love the history of our cottage and of Caldbeck, so have tried to retain as much of a Lake District feel as possible. We have used our fantastic local builders, joiners, craftsmen, artists and retailers to create something we love even more and which feels part of the community. Most of the shelving, coat hooks, the plate rack, bannister and iron log basket have been crafted by the talented Paul Bainbridge at Forge and Forest. There is artwork from Julia Garner (available to buy from Hesta Scene, Hesket Newmarket Post Office and The Old Crown in Hesket) and Lucy Melrose (available to buy from Wild Rabbit Interiors, Carlisle). Most artwork has been framed by local Peter Rolf. Another favourite artist of ours is Sam Martin. Her work is available online and she is yet another Cumbrian local. Her Lake District landscape paintings are colourful, cheerful and bold. We have a commission of ‘Haystacks’ in pride of place in the living room, and also have a couple of her unique lampshades. The screensaver for The Frame TV is usually set to ‘High Pike’ by Charlotte Gurran - she is an incredible local artist and created the original of High Pike for us which we have in our own home. She works in Penrith and is often displayed at ‘Shop for the Senses’ in the Rheged Centre in Penrith. There is a rose sculpture from local ‘Fat Dave’s Workshop’ (more of his work available in the shops at Priest’ Mill and Oddfellows pub), and a Christmas tree made from horseshoes. We have throws, diffusers and trinkets from Hesta Scene and Sharon Lomas of ‘Fern and Fell’. If you need to take a gift back then Hesta Scene will have you covered!
