Zelda's Loft is a cozy retreat among mountains, trails and wildlife. Come experience a true escape from everyday life as you experience the peace and beauty of nature. Maintained trails wind throughout the 96-acre property like your own private park. Enjoy fantastic views, explore the stream & wetlands, abundant wildlife, birdwatching, wildflowers, star gazing, and campfires! Only 15 to 30 minutes from some of Virginia's best hiking trails, including the Virginia Triple Crown! Our 90+ acre farm has been managed to provide habitat for native species of all kinds. Zelda's Loft is designed to be a comfortable and peaceful escape. The many walking/hiking trails around the farm are easily accessible from the loft. Come and experience a true retreat from the rest of the world. We call it Zelda's Loft because it used to be our kids' hang-out space where they played "Zelda" video games and shared time with their friends, but it has been remodeled as a modern escape for adults. The Loft is a spacious but cozy studio, completly separate from our house, with a fantastic view from the deck, a well-equipped kitchenette, a cozy living area, a super comfy queen bed, and a bath with shower. - 15 minutes to hiking Dragon's Tooth - 20 minutes to hiking McAfee's Knob and Tinker Cliffs - 50 minutes to Virginia Tech - 35 minutes to Carvin's Cove (fishing, boat rentals, hiking, mountain biking) - Less than 10 minutes to Blue Ridge Soaring Society glider port - 20 minutes to Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing - Less than 5 minutes to the town of New Castle (grocery store, a few restaurants, gas stations/convenience stores) DECK: The entry staircase features a two-person deck with a fantastic view of the fields and surrounding mountains. Deer can be frequently seen in the morning and evening hours, and the sunsets and star filled sky can be absolutely spectacular. Coffee on the deck in the cool hours of the morning is a favorite activity of ours and I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do! There is an umbrella to provide shade for afternoon relaxation. KITCHENETTE: Includes a small refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster oven, deep dish electric skillet, coffee maker, electric kettle, basic kitchen tools/supplies, and a decent amount of counter space and food storage space. This is not a full kitchen but includes everything you need for a short-term stay. There is also a gas grill with grill tools provided. There is a table and chairs for eating and/or working. Coffee, oatmeal, snack bars, and popcorn are provided. LIVING AREA: Offers a comfy couch with lots of pillows, TV with Roku, and a coffee table you can put your feet on. A mini-mudroom area is provided for unloading muddy hiking boots and hanging up jackets and backpacks. There is a small table and chairs for dining or computer work. BEDROOM AREA: The bedroom area has a comfortable queen bed, extra-soft sheets, extra pillows, lamps and USB charging on both side-tables, a dresser and space for suitcases and hanging clothes, and a full length mirror. BATHROOM: Small bathroom has a shower, extra towels, hair dryer, and toiletries. YARD: There is a small grassy yard with a fire pit, chairs, and a gas barbecue grill. Firewood for your first campfire is included. More is available for sale on site, or you can purchase elsewhere. TRAILS: The many trails around the farm are easily accessible from the loft - a go ogle map is provided. It's like your own private park, with benches and overlooks.

Zelda's Loft is located in a rural area approximately 35 minutes outside of Roanoke/Salem and 50 minutes from Blacksburg and Virginia Tech, but the small town of New Castle is only a 5-minute drive away and has a grocery store, a dollar store, a modern olde-time general store, a few restaurants, gas stations, churches, and several historical landmarks. A guide to the local amenities is provided in the Loft.
The hiking opportunities in this area (both here on the farm and in the surrounding county) are fantastic - please ask for recommendations if you're interested! There are also great opportunities for bird watching, kayaking, fishing, biking, etc - just ask!
