Ein herrlicher Ort mit sehr lieben Menschen. Erica und Herbie machen Ihre Lodge mit viel Liebe zu etwas ganz besonderem. Vielen Dank das wir bei Euch sein durften! Ich kann es nur empfehlen und würde jederzeit wieder kommen.

When we drove through the gates of Boca Chica Bay Eco Lodge, we truly were made to feel like we had landed in our new home in Panama. Herbie and Erica have created a most amazing sanctuary of peace and relaxation on Panama’s Pacific coast that is likely to steal your heart as it did ours. We simply loved our too-short time here for several reasons. First off, little did we know that landing into the waiting arms of Herbie and Erica we would be plied with delightfully accommodating attention liken to that of a five star restaurant, them seeing to our every need. This level of care, especially welcome by the weary traveler, which we were was never obtrusive, but ever attentive. No drink ran out before we were offered a new one. This kind service was especially welcome given our thirst in the warm coastal temperatures. The food!!! Out of the chute I want to mention the joy we were afforded indulging in such culinary expertise as Herbie’s. His comestibles fully satisfied with each meal, leaving our interest piqued, wondering what great new flavors would appear at our next meal. Among other treats we had huge cheeseburgers that might have been the best I’ve ever had. The real treat was not your usual grilled onions, always a delicacy on a righteous burger, but Herbie spiced his up with an herb that evaded my identification, but was tantalizing just the same, moving this burger into the realm of the elegant. The Indian curry left me wanting seconds except I was so stuffed I could hold no more. Now please don’t dis my mentioning the excellent pizza as a ho hum offering. Boring or blah it was not. With fresh tuna and peppers , great sauce, and stretchy cheese you’d expect on the finest pizza, we were won over. We are not regularly generous in our assessment of pizza. Rather, we are dyed-in-the-wool pizza snobs, and a mediocre crust gets a thumbs-down even if the rest of the pizza is acceptable. This crispy crust slapped an instant smile on our faces at the first bite, and we were both shaking our heads to the affirmative in unison, reading each others’ mind in wordless agreement that the crust passed our strict test. We were immediately hooked and just kept consuming. But did Herbie quit at one whole pizza? NO, he cooked us TWO pizzas. Of course the first one filled us up, and we had to pass on a second one. The view!!! My sister and I were so refreshed by the view of islands and boats, we relaxed for the first time in our three week Panama trip that was mostly stressful business. The stunning vistas were downright awesome. We wanted to do some of the available island-hopping excursions available, but we were waiting for a phone call that kept us captive at the Lodge. All I can say is it’s a great place to be stuck!. As to our lodging, we stayed in a separate casita which had two beds in the air conditioned and beautifully decorated bedroom. One wall was painted almost in a French style a quaint bookshelf that words don’t do justice. I kick myself for not taking a photo of it. Another couple was there the day we arrived. They had come only planning to spend three days but chose to add another seven days there. My sister and I are birders, and we so enjoyed watching and listening to the parrots, tanagers, oropendolas, crested caracaras, a roadside hawk, a red-legged honeycreeper, a red-crowned woodpecker pecking a hole in a tree to make a nest, black and turkey vultures, and more! There are howler monkeys nearby we heard but didn’t see. The pool!! The days are quite warm at Boca Chica, and the infinity pool not only gave respite from the heat, but from it the islands and afar off boat traffic was a joy to watch from as if from a pool hung in space. Great hosts, great food, great views, great pool, great birds. What’s not to love? We surely would return to partake in Herbie’s fun culinary treats and Erica’s great hospitality and their great senses of humor, but with so much on offer aside from the food and drink, we would return in a heartbeat.
