Incredible home and host! The trip to Kansas City was to celebrate a birthday and the location was a surprise chosen by my kids and I. They loved all the pictures and really wanted to stay in a mansion with such great reviews. I haven't seen them this excited about a trip in a long time! Once we arrived, we were not disappointed by Gary's hospitality. he showed us our rooms as well as the rest of the house and went over some of the history. We all had a great night's sleep and then woke up to the smell of the delicious breakfast he was making fresh for us! I will definitely be staying here again in the future and look forward to visiting the zoo and other spots in the area!
Laura and Gary are warm, friendly, thoughtful, creative, and helpful hosts and really know how to make guests feel at home. They are ALSO excellent cooks, know KC well, have been lots of places in the city, can chat about topics from games to art, gardening to home restoration, road trips to excursions by train, and everything in between. We were there several nights and there were different breakfasts each day, different times were available, and our diets could be accommodated. Now add the house! It is beautiful inside and out, really spacious, quiet, has lots of interesting stories, and all the furnishings are authentic or period friendly. The rooms and bathrooms are so absolutely comfortable, restful, and peaceful; we had 2 bedrooms with a shared bath and it was perfect for us! The location was quite good as well; everything we wanted to see was just minutes away - Art Museums, Union Station, City Market, Westport. We wanted to stay longer and you will too!
We absolutely loved our stay, our 14 year old was even impressed! Great location, the grounds and home are beautiful! Gary and Laura were great hosts and the breakfast was delicious. Oh and the coffee was fab! Highly recommend and will definitely stay again.
What a value, what a view! Especially if you are going to the zoo! Bring the whole family! This place is incredible! Garry and the family are amazing hosts, and just the best!
My family had such a wonderful experience that we are looking for reasons to go back to KC so we can stay here again. The house and rooms are welcoming, comfortable, and entertaining. My nine year old loved getting to play in the game room and completely forgot about his Switch. Gary and Laura are a delight, happy to chat or simply just provide information about the area.

I am a retired science educator and worked with researchers in the fields of polar science and climate change. I worked with zoos, museums, and cultural centers in development of educational displays and programs for all ages. Past president of Polar educators International. I have a large family and live in an historic home. We have converted the HVAC to geothermal and installed a solar farm to power it. I have traveled extensively in the polar regions of the planet and in my youth I was an exchange student in Norway and then in Paraguay. I like getting to know the people I stay with, but understand that in some cases that is not possible due to my or the guest's schedule.
