Lisa and Barb were such wonderful hosts to me and my family. I was there with my whole immediate family and we all felt right at home there. The kitchen/dining/living rooms were one open area, making it ideal for larger groups. There was plenty of seating for everyone without feeling crowded. The weather was chilly and rainy while we were there, so we weren’t able to take advantage of the big yard, deck or fire pit. There are several diners and restaurants close by. We had donuts at the Forestport Diner (a short walk down the street) several times. I can’t say enough good things about this lovely home and would definitely return.

A wonderful place to get away and relax with family. Close proximity to attractions yet far enough no to feel the crowds. Our hosts were extremely accommodating to the last detail. Will definitely be returning.

In the interest of full disclosure and fairness, I want to rate the house and yard separately from the entire experience. Our interactions with the owner were pleasant and friendly. They were very accommodating of our two dogs, which was the primary reason we stayed here. My family has stayed all over the Adirondacks, but finding a place that will allow two full sized dogs is a challenge, and it really limits your options. This was one of the few places available in August that would take two dogs, so we took our chances. The house itself was very nicely appointed. A roomy kitchen with modern appliances, plenty of silverware, paper products, spices and storage space was wonderful. We did a fair amount of cooking and grilling. Someone else had complained about the gas grill but I found it to work very well. The umbrella was crucial as it did get hot on the deck, so it was nice to have a shady place to sit and read. The yard is large and flat and lovely, with a gentle slope down to the water. There are tons of floaty things, kayaks and canoes, a nice fire ring and plenty of chairs. There was some fire logs provided and an axe for splitting them. We enjoyed the firepit and the large yard for the dogs to roam and just reading and bird watching and looking at the ducks and geese on the water. Inside the house the bathrooms are clean and modern. Showers were both great with plenty of hot water, towels and soap. Beds were OK, but could prob use new mattresses. The bed in the master bedroom was also a bit loud so made noise whenever we turned over. There were tons of books and games in the living room and we also used the TV to stream shows on rainy days. I would rate the house and yard 4.5 stars out of 5. It really is a lovely, clean and fairly modern space to relax. Unfortunately, the house is set back only about ten feet from the road and cars whiz by all day at pretty high speeds, which can be a bit alarming when you're in the kitchen with the windows open. But worse was the traffic from route 28, which is very close by. The noise is constant as cars and many trucks are loudly whizzing by all day and well into the night. By dark things quiet down significantly, but the non-stop traffic all day just really kind of put a damper on what would otherwise have been a lovely experience. Accordingly, I would rate the overall experience probably a 3 out of 5. Without the traffic, I would be back in a heartbeat, but as is, I think we will be looking elsewhere. In terms of what's nearby, there is a decent Tops grocery store in Boonville, which is just a short drive. We really liked Bonnie's, a nice convenience store just up the road on Woodhull Drive. They make wonderful sandwiches and have a nice variety of foods and supplies. We also enjoyed a nice breakfast at the Foresport Diner. The first night we also ate at Garramone's. I had prob one of the best prime rib there that I've ever had, would definitely recommend. You are not far from Old Forge, but 25 minutes is a little generous, prob closer to 35. We are used to staying further up in the park and missed the sound of loons on the lakes. However, the reservoir makes for a nice paddle and there is also a creek that branches off of it that you can also paddle for about a mile until you get to rapids that are not passable with an ordinary kayak. Be aware that the reservoir looks very large, but it is dammed on both ends so you can only kayak about a mile and a half to the other end. Paddling down to the other end is very nice. Once you get half a mile or so past the route 28 bridge and away from the traffic noise, it is quite tranquil. I saw a red tailed hawk and an Osprey in the large trees just beyond the large bay on the right side of the reservoir. There are tons of turtles that sun themselves on rocks and stumps in the reservoir. I also saw a bald eagle flying over the reservoir. Overall, we had a nice vacation, but I really miss the quiet of other places we've stayed in the past that are further removed from main roads. If traffic noise doesn't bother you, this is a nice rental. The house is well appointed and the yard is great. Personally I just need more quite than what was available with this home.

We loved our stay! It was a relaxing and cozy cottage with plenty of space inside and out. We got to meet Lisa and Barb and they were wonderful! Sunset was beautiful and the falls were a short walk away.
