East Lothian · 整套民居 · 2室3床1.0卫 · 可住4人 · Idyllic cottage retreat with stunning sea views
This cosy and unique cottage sits on top of a hill overlooking the Firth of Forth to the front and the Lammermuir Hills at the back. It is very quiet and peaceful, with fresh sea air and clear starry night-skies. Close to Edinburgh, Dunbar ( 2 mls), Haddington (6 mls), east coastline, Berwick-upon-Tweed and mainline train services to London, it is perfect for families and visitors of all ages with an array of activities, attractions and amenities within easy reach. The house is part of a row of six former farm-workers cottages, with a wooden porch at the front and a very secluded, quiet south-facing garden out the back. The 2 bedrooms are upstairs; one king-sided or twin room with a stunning view across to Fife and North Berwick. The other has a double bed built into a recess so only accessible from one side, with raised floor to enable people to see out of the velux right over to Fife and North Berwick. This alcove bed is just above waist height and there is a children's safety barrier available, if required. Downstairs is the living room, kitchen and bathroom with shower over the bath. It is not a power shower but just a basic one. There are heaters in all the rooms and a wood burner in the living room which makes the whole house very cosy on colder nights - firewood will be provided. The added advantage is that there are no neighbours on either side, which makes the space even more secluded.
***** cleanliness ****** OH MY GOODNESS.............When we arrived it was very clear to see that the cottage had not been cleaned, vacuumed or mopped in ages . I had to re wash dishes so we could have our dinner . I opened the fridge to put our food in and there was an out of date opened milk bottle and other bits of food . In the bathroom there was half used shampoo and shower gels. Windows and sills and all surfaces were so dusty. The wood burner was not cleaned out the whole place was filthy. We booked for 3 nights stayed one as we had travelled 2 1/2 hrs and could fine alternative accommodation . There was no welcome pack and no hot water thank goodness the the shower was electric. It ruined our family break away . Hopefully this will not happen to another family as I have brought it to Liz the host attention. She said she was taking it off the site and up grade over the winter period .
What a quirky little cottage! Perfect for a little week away in Scotland. The cottage is well appointed and everything is relatively close by- Dunbar 10mins, North Berwick 20mins etc. Check in was nice and easy. Liz left us a key because we were running late so unfortunately we couldn’t meet her. She left lots of local tips and things to do in the area.
A cute little cottage in a peaceful rural location with beautiful coastal views. Great location for exploring the coastline of East Lothian. The cottage is well appointed with everything that you will need for your stay. We did experience some issues with the condition/cleanliness of the cottage, which we felt were material - we raised these to the host but didn't receive any response. If these can be rectified for future guests then we would recommend this cottage.
This is a nice little cottage and the location and views are absolutely stunning. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable, though the kitchen and bathroom would certainly benefit from an upgrade. Liz kindly provided a cot, baby carrier and high chair for our 1yr old which was much appreciated.
There are many beach and woodland walks within easy reach, including the John Muir Way (Belhaven Beach). It’s a short drive to the beach and to small villages dotted along the coast – East Linton, North Berwick, Gullane & Dunbar are nice places to visit and cater to families with various attractions for all ages and local amenities such as supermarkets, local shops, and nice pubs, cafe’s, and delicatessens.
Local activities include surfing (Belhaven & Pease Bay), paddle boarding, kite-surfing, horse-riding and sea kayaking, as well as daily boat tours to the bass rock. Historical sites of interest include Traprain & North Berwick Law (sites of megalithic hill forts), Tantalon & Dirleton Castles. Fox Lake Adventures, East Links Family Park and John Muir's birthplace are great for family trips.
Edinburgh is a 30-40 minute drive or a 20 minute train ride away. There are regular daily trains connecting Edinburgh to Dunbar, the nearest town (a 10 minute drive). The house is half way between Edinburgh and Berwick upon Tweed, so lots of potential for day trips in both directions.
