We are a 7 minute drive away from Hambelden, a picturesque village that is often used for filming. eg Midsummer Murders, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang;101 Dalmations. It has a small village shop which is charming 7 useful to visit.
Restaurants:
Coach and Michelin starred Hand and Flowers, Marlow. Both owned by Tom Kerridge. Coach doesn't take bookings and is more casual dining than Hand and Flowers.
Cafe Raj Henley - an excellent traditional Indian;
The Hart Street Tavern, Henley. Consistently good food, buzzy atmosphere and live music.
Stag & Huntsman pub Hambleden. Just acquired by the owners of Hart St - lovely garden.
The Frog, Skirmett - a country pub with a lovely garden in a peaceful setting. On a cold day, you can sit by the open fire and it offers baguettes seeking a quick pit stop along The Chiltern Way. (40 min walk or8 min drive).
The Five Horseshoes, Maidensgrove - this is a lovely place for a Sunday lunch or evening drink. Beautiful views, a lovely garden and cosy indoor setting (open fire). (20 min drive).
The Barn, Turville. A lovely barn set in the woods near Turville Heath. It serves a great breakfast or later in the day, pizza, beer, wine, ice cream. About a 30 minute walk away. Open weekends only - you have to book.
Golf - several courses locally such as Henley, Badgemore Park, Temple; Huntercombe.
Boat Hire - Hobbs of Henley have day cruisers and longer term hire.
Walking/hiking - many lovely countryside strolls available on numerous public footpaths.
Cycling - many cyclists love the Chilterns as it's relatively free from traffic.
Wine tasting - at the Chiltern winery which runs tours. 10 mins walk.
Stonor House - built in the 13th century with its own chapel. A footpath runs from Southend along the south side of the ground and there is entry to see the gardens and a cafe. They often have children's activities.
