On recommande pleinement!
The Hub is located right on the shores of Lago Atitlán on the outskirts of San Juan La Laguna, Sololá. The site has wonderful views of the Lake and surroundings volcanos including San Pedro and the Indian Nose (Cerro del Rostro Maya). The Hub is also closely connected with the Tz’utujil community of San Juan where Mayan culture is still very much alive. Here, the streets are awash in colourful textiles, murals and handicrafts. There are dozens of artisanal shops, a number of good local restaurants and one very good coffee cooperative. The Hub is also just a stones-throw or boat ride away from San Pedro and the other towns surrounding Lago Atitlán.
The Hub is located at km 174 on the road to San Pedro directly under the “Bienvenido a San Juan” sign. Just look for the black gate and big Backpacking with a Purpose sign.
To arrive at the Hub you can:
1. Take the bus – Camionetas or chicken buses to San Pedro from Xela or Guate pass directly in front of the Hub. Just ask to get let off in front of “la garita” at the “entrada” to San Juan.
2. Take a boat – Water taxis or lanchas from Pana or San Pedro make stops at San Juan’s municipal dock or embarcadero. From there it’s a short 10-15min walk to the Hub. Just ask for the salida or exit to San Pablo and follow the road to “la garita”. The Hub will be on the right.
3. Take a tuktuk – The 3-wheeled taxis operate all around the lake. Just ask to be dropped off at the exit from San Juan to San Pablo.
4. Drive – The Hub has space for parking. Take the Pan-American highway to km 148 and then follow the road to San Pedro until you arrive at the entrance to San Juan. The Hub will be on the right. Just please let us know you’ll need a spot when you make your booking.
