This tucked-away beautifully rustic and rather quirky dog-friendly barn sits in a very quiet location only a few minutes' walk to all the eateries, cafes and shops that make Thornham so desirable for a short break or longer stay. This tucked-away beautifully rustic and rather quirky dog-friendly barn sits in a very quiet location only a few minutes' walk to all the eateries, cafes and shops that make Thornham so desirable for a short break or longer stay. Set over three floors, this stylish end-of-terrace barn sleeps four very comfortably and is well-located in the pretty village of Thornham with is harbour, beach and coastal and countryside walks. A clever conversion of an old building, the property still retains its original character with exposed beams, vaulted ceilings and now boasts two beautifully-furnished bedrooms and bathrooms. The decor is rustic throughout with the owner making use of old scaffolding boards, earthy colours and bright pops of colour to make the open plan kitchen/dining/living area the perfect place to retreat to after a busy day exploring. The second floor master bedroom suite is stunning; with a four-poster bed positioned under a vaulted ceiling with four skylights making it perfect for stargazing whilst laying in bed. It even has a TV which rises from the foot of the bed. There is a further double bedroom on the first floor, again with rustic floors and bags of room and both bathrooms feature stylish sinks, showers with the master suite also having a free-standing bath, providing the opportunity for a good wallow at the end of a long day. Outside you'll find a table and chairs to the front of the property, perfect for morning coffee and reading the newspapers and plenty of communal space to the rear of the cottage which also provides a short-cut to the fabulous Thornham Deli, less than a minutes' walk away, where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast or lunch. Thornham is great for exploring the whole of the coast and with a fantastic array of pubs/restaurants, one of the best fish and chip shops around and a famous farm shop with pick-your-own fruit farm at Drove Orchards, you won't be short of places to eat out. Hideaway Barn is also available as a full occupancy sleeps six option, with an additional king-size en-suite bedroom. Additional Information Three well-behaved dogs are welcome (small additional charge). Cot, high-chair and stairgate available on request (please bring your own cot linen). Please note there is a restriction to the opening, views and light from the windows at the property on the ground and first floor. The windows have been obscured, letting limited natural light inside and retractors have also been fitted.
Stayed October, so possibly the property was suffering some "end of season" lethargy - all small and correctable issues. The property is full of character. The television technology could benefit from updating - not that we go on holiday to watch television, but none of the televisions are "smart". If we had known we would have taken a wifi adapter for streaming options. As others have noted - natural light in the house is muted. The house is the last in a row of attached cottages, with most of this property situated within adjacent land under unrelated ownership. As a result, there is no outside space with this house (unlike the others in the mews) and the rear windows are all glazed with privacy glass; the feel, particularly downstairs, is akin to a basement. Not a huge issue for us, visiting in Autumn.
Thornham is a picturesque yet vibrant, old smuggling village right on the North Norfolk Coast. Wide expanses of salt marsh separate the village from the sea and it is a paradise for walkers and bird watchers. There are several great places to eat including Thornham Deli, selling all manner of local produce, cakes, specialities and great coffee (plus big breakfasts and luscious lunches too!), The Lifeboat Inn, an old smugglers inn complete with heavy beams and roaring fires so great for relaxed dining; and The Orange Tree, a fabulous gastro pub. At Drove Orchard's on the edge of the village you will find the village farm shop and pick-your-own-fruit farm. Recently this has evolved into so much more and now boasts a fresh fish shop (Gurney's) and Eric's fish and chips (such a cool place). You will adore the diversity of this little coastal village that seems to pack so much in. The beach, reached by walking past the harbour and over the sea defence and the salt marshes, is simply stunning and you will be rewarded by peace and quiet whatever time of year you are visiting. Outside of the village you will find other spectacular beaches; Old Hunstanton; Holme-next-the-Sea; Titchwell or Brancaster and a few miles further down the road, don't miss probably the best beach in the UK, Holkham, where you can also explore the hall and its vast parkland. At Wells-next-the-Sea children and adults alike will adore catching the little train to the beach or crabbing off the quay. A visit to see the seals at nearby Morston or Blakeney is a must as is a visit to HM The King's Sandringham Estate, or the RSPB reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham. Or walk from Thornham beach to to Holme marshes which is owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust to appreciate and see an abundance of wildlife.
