Jungle meets ocean! This Beach Front Cottage is a tropical escape ideal for couples or small families looking to enjoy a private retreat. A unique octagon shaped cottage is tucked away behind the palms, just steps away from the beach. The cottage is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens with abundant wildlife. With the ocean out front and the pool in the back, you're sure to find a perfect spot to relax. The true beauty of this rustic beach cottage is it's location, set just steps away from the ocean, in your own private forest. The main octagonal shaped room has natural wood features. The high ceiling and large doors allow the breeze to flow through. The beds have hotel quality sheets, pillows and mosquito nets. There is a ceiling mounted fan above the queen bed and an additional floor fan. The futon folds into a bed large enough for a single person or child. A fully stocked kitchen makes it easy to prepare and enjoy your meals at home. With our own well on the property, the water is safe to drink from the faucet. The spacious bathroom has a shower with hot and cold water. It isn't uncommon to see a family of howler or white faced monkeys, agoutis, red tailed squirrels, iguanas, or tiger herons as you eat your breakfast. Surrounding the cottage are very tall trees, many tropical plants attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. There are pleasant spots to sit outside to soak up the natural beauty in the shade or sun. While many people come to Costa Rica to see monkeys and exotic birds, there's a good chance you will see a variety of insects, crabs and lizards. Some people find that charming while others do not appreciate house guests. The crabs are especially active in the rainy season (May-November). Please consider the likelihood of seeing insects and crabs when traveling to Costa Rica, especially if you choose to stay in a jungle and beach front location.

Breathtaking, private, beachfront property complete with a heavenly Queen size bed and the loveliest, cleanest secluded pool—Firefly is not to be missed (but it’s not for the feint of heart). Get your information, get your sandals, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!!
We loved this amazing piece of paradise. We had booked 4 nights but extended with 2 nights because we enjoyed it so much. The cabin is literally on the beach and the jungle in the backyard. The beach and sea is amazing and almost empty. Loved watching the sun rise in the mornings. Ximena is absolutely wonderful and helped us so much- we are so grateful we found this place and can highly recommend it. We hope to come back one day. The vibes in Montezuma are absolutely laid back and relaxed and at the same time many things to do.
The cottage location is unsurpassed, situated in the jungle but only 45 steps away from the beach. A longer walk takes you to additional beautiful beaches. A 10-minute walk takes you downtown to fun shopping and good restaurants. However, the cottage is primitive. No air conditioning and the heat and humidity were relentless during our month-long stay. The cottage is not sealed (holes in walls and around windows) which allows insects and lizards in ( we liked the geckos; good bug control). Appliances are old and rusted although everything worked well. Lighting is dim. Things like curtains and towels are a bit on the shabby side. HOWEVER, the host Ximena and caretakers Mercedes and Jairo were wonderful. Ximena brought an extra fan and kept in touch to make sure we were OK. She speaks English very well and we had enjoyable conversations. Her recommendations for activities were spot-on. I think you just need to go into renting this place knowing that you’ll be roughing it, in paradise.
Increíble, el mejor Airbnb en el que me he quedado en mi vida. He ido muchas veces a Montezuma pero nunca había estado tan cómodo y en una ubicación tan perfecta. Vi muchos comentarios sobre insectos pero eso es normal en esta zona y en comparación a otros lugares casi no vi insectos. Volveremos definitivamente.
My wish was to be on or as close to the beach as possible. The cottage was perfect and it was in a private area beautiful area and walkable to the town. We woke up to sunrises every day and although the cottage does not have air conditioning, it did cool down at night. If you are very sensitive to heat, it could be difficult. We loved being so close to the turtle sanctuary and got to see a baby turtle being released. We were also close to Ylang Ylang and had some great meals there. Thank you to Ximena who helped us to get to the cottage and let us come early to the property. I hope to return next year.

After a ten minute beautiful walk along the beach or shaded road, you will find many amenities in the small, charming village of Montezuma including two well stocked supermarkets, many restaurants featuring local fresh food and international cuisine, and some nightlife at the local bar. There are tourist shops and talented artisans set up along the road. Offerings of adventure tours, ATV's, surf rentals, yoga classes, and massage are all available to find in the town.
Location, location, location!
The house is situated on the beach between the village and a natural reserve. Piedra Colorada River is a very special spot to swim and explore. If you hike up the river, you will be able to sit in waterfalls and swim in more small pools. A little further along the beach is Playa Grande, a world class destination for surfing and boogie boarding.
Upon reserving the cottage, you will be a sent a welcome packet that has more information about the location, transportation and booking activities.
There are many ways to get to Montezuma from the San Jose airport.You can arrive by car and ferry, bus and ferry, shuttles, shuttle boat from Jaco, or airplane and taxi/bus.
We strive to be an eco friendly house and encourage our guests to pack lightly as the road comes to an end before you get to our property so there is a short walk on the sand.
If you arrive by car, the only way to park inside the property is with a 4 x4 driving on the sand. It can be challenging if you are not used to driving on the beach.
We recommend you park at a public space by the Montezuma Turtle Hatchery. From here, there's a short walk before the road ends and then a walk approx. 150 mts to the house.
It's preferable that cars do not drive on the beach and you will see signs warning against this. However it can be done with a small 4 x4, the property can be entered this way.
It's highly recommended to arrive to the house in the daylight. Many roads in Costa Rica and in the Montezuma area are dust roads and don't have light.. The sun goes down just after 6 PM in Costa Rica. It's always a good idea to carry a flashlight.
