Kept up by host's music. David started playing loud music under our room around 9pm. We were trying to get an early night so I went downstairs to ask if it could be turned down. To his credit, David did reduce it a bit but 45mins later we were still awake because the bass was reverberating through the floor. I asked if the sound could be reduced further and David became confrontational, saying that he found it disrespectful to him as host and he didn't want to tread on eggshells for us as he wasn't running a hotel. He said he'd turn it off around 11pm. This seemed an unreasonable escalation and I felt uncomfortable so I didn't say anything more about it and tried to sleep through it. I failed and didn't get to sleep until 12.30ish, when the music was still going. I've done a lot of couchsurfing and if I'd been using that app, I'd understand. But as a customer, this was inappropriate. Headphones doesn't seem much of a hardship for a host earning £90 a night.

As written online, I was supposed to be able to check in after 3pm. On the day David told me he’ll have to work till 6pm. Therefore we arranged to meet at his place 6:30pm. However, he was late for about 45 min. Also do not expect cleanliness at his place. It smells bad.

I enjoyed my stay with David and his dog. David is easy to get along with. The mattress was good and the view from 'my' window of the hills was great. David gave me good suggestions conc. hikes which was helpful. Short walk to the train station and the bus stop. The G - oogle direction is pointing to the wrong place, but it's above the laundrette.

Very friendly host, good communication and perfect location for walking in the Peak District. Comfy bed and stunning view from the room. His dog (Ora) was lovely and very well behaved. Would thoroughly recommend but may not be suitable if smoking bothers you.
