We had an unforgettable stay in this tropical paradise - from the fragrant flowers, sunshowers, abundant fruit trees, cute green geckos, scenic drives through the old growth rainforest, to the evening symphony of coqui frogs. Jes was always kind and responsive and her caretakers helpful and welcoming. We had complete privacy, which made the outdoor shower an awesome experience, but it was also comforting knowing neighbors weren't too far away in this remote jungle. Our toddler loved exploring, puddle jumping, and learning about the local plants and animals. It's also totally doable to push a 3-wheel stroller to the awesome mermaid ponds for a swim. The wifi was always fine for remote working.  On sunny days, the solar panels powered everything all night long. On cloudy days, we sometimes had to top off the battery using the generator, which was no big deal. This simple but comfy & beautiful home that Jes has created brought us back to basics, closer to nature, and closer to eachother.

Monstera house is a unique property. Mostly screened in, it is light and airy in a way that a walled structure cannot be. Completely off grid, but all of the systems worked perfectly, especially the new Starlink internet. Our favorite part of the house was the outdoor shower. Being able to look up at the trees and stars while taking a shower was dramatic. My wife and brother-in-law, skeptical of not having an indoor shower, were quick converts. Jes was very responsive, usually replying to our queries within minutes. For anything needed on site, her caretaker Xochi was available. He showed us the trailheads for choice swimming and viewing sites. Favorite things close to Monstera house: 1) Hiking to the new black sand beach 2) Picking fruit on the property 3) Driving through the jungle canopy of Govt Beach Road 4) Eating at the Mexican truck in Pahoa 5) Swimming at nearby tidal pools 6) Sunset near Hawaiian Beaches (local Happy Hour) 7) Watching the night sky from our deck

Wow! A million times over… Wow. Our time at this jungle sanctuary was absolutely incredible. The place was such a perfect blend of peaceful and comforting and wild and free. Our family enjoyed picking fresh fruits daily from the yard, enjoyed the jungle sounds and spending quality family time. The host, Jes, was so welcoming and offered support or answered questions when needed. She is gracious and very easy to communicate with. We even got to meet and connect with the gardeners and caretakers of the property and enjoyed each interaction. We’ve been wanting to “practice” living off grid and this was a perfect opportunity as well. No issues with the power or rain water and simply followed the guidance by Jes. In addition, my wife and I both work from home and were able to easily and comfortably create space for work and create space for family play. Plus… the property is close to so many little eateries and volcanic rock ocean lookouts and parks. We’ll definitely be back!

We loved our six week stay at Monstera House. The place is magical. We loved the sounds of the birds and the frogs and the seclusion we had. We loved taking afternoon walks down to the lava-rock shoreline and looking for whales. Living off grid was a new experience for us, but we had plenty of catchment water and solar energy (even in December) for everything we needed. The WiFi, while slower than we are used to in more developed areas, was good enough for two of us to work remotely and take zoom calls during our stay. Jes was a wonderful host and was always responsive when we reached out with questions and gave us great recommendations. We cherished our time there and look forward to coming back again someday!

House is awesome and Jes communicates impeccably, although the wifi is a bit of a chore. Would def stay again!
