Silvermine Retreat-Nantahala Gorge minutes to NOC Who is ready for adventure? Silvermine Retreat is a quintessential Smoky Mountain cabin ideally situated between the Appalachian Trail on the ridge above and the Nantahala River and Outdoor Center (NOC) exactly two miles below. World-class amenities for kayaking, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, and fly fishing are nearly right out your front door. After your day on the water or in the mountains, head back to the cabin for a soak in the hot tub next to the campfire or listen to the creek while swinging on the screened porch. If you’re too worn out to make use of the fully stocked kitchen and propane grill, the River’s End Restaurant, Big Wesser Riverside Pub (with frequent live bluegrass), and a general store are located right at the bottom of the hill. The cabin is cozy and romantic enough for just a couple but equipped for a group of up to nine people. Accommodations include ensuite bathrooms in both the master (queen bed) and guest (two full beds) bedrooms on the second floor and a queen pullout sofa, twin daybed, and full bathroom with laundry machines on the first floor. Access to the second story is provided through a spiral staircase in the living room and an outdoor staircase by the front door. Families with young kids will be happy to find a Pack and Play, high chair, box of toys, and stack of board games. Additionally, kids and adults alike will love taking a ride through the Nantahala Gorge on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, located in Bryson City only 15 minutes from the NOC. And for those unable to completely disconnect, the high-speed satellite internet provides plenty of bandwidth for remote work. Up to two dogs are permitted with an additional fee. Silvermine Retreat provides easy access to Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway and is just over an hour from Clingmans Dome and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The driveway was extended in 2022 to make motorcycle access more friendly. Although there are gravel roads leading to this cabin, they are packed and maintained by the county, making the Silvermine Retreat a great way to get into the mountains year-round. While we have indicated this listing as “motorcycle friendly,” this assumes that riders coming to this area are experienced with mountain roads. Each individual should assess their own skill level and consider conditions before relying on our assessment or feel free to contact our office for specifics about towing a trailer. Make sure you check out the Xplorie program that is included with every stay at a Watershed Cabin. This benefit provides a free admission to each of several area attractions every single day of your stay!
We enjoyed our stay. We would go back, but we thought it was a bit dusty. The beds were comfy and the amount of bathrooms was really nice for our group.
the cabin was beautiful it was so serene I will be booking with Tim and Maria in the near future thanks againso much I loved it
I first want to say I would most definitely stay here again. There were some issues, however, they were handled well and we were happy with the resolution. 1. While they classify this as a motorcycle friendly road, I want to say, it is far from it. My spouse and I have been riding together for 3 years and he has been riding in total over 10 years. There would have been serious issues getting into the driveway if we would have been on our motorcycle. The main roads getting up are doable, but the driveway has heavy loose gravel and is at a heavy incline. I would not recommend this for motorcycle riders. 2. The house did have housekeeping issues, however, it was handled well by the management company and we were taken care of. 3. The stairs are VERY small and steep. I was very worried going up and down. If you have children, please book with caution. 4. If you are thicker and weigh more than the low 100’s, bring your own pool towels. The pool towels provided are child size. 5. The hot tub, while we enjoyed it and the issues were handled, there are handles missing and some jets are not operational. 6. The fire wood there is green. It will not burn. You are better off getting wood from the woods. 7. Closest grocery store is 20 minutes away. Stop on the way in.
Nice cabin, with plenty of space. Location was great, as the drive to anything wasn’t long at all. Very quiet. And felt like we were all alone among the mountains, just like we wanted. Everything was provided from kitchenware to extra towels and blankets. Also a huge stack of board games and a box of toys for kids was a huge bonus. Overall, we had a great time, and were comfortable. Thank you.
