The Roadhouse provides a unique experience just minutes from Folino Estate, Rodale Institute, and Kutztown University. Close to the road, but surrounded by nature on a certified wildlife and bird habitat. The open living space is complete with a kitchenette and dining nook. In the cooler months enjoy the propane fireplace. In the warmer months sit by the creek and listen to the black birds. Ready for bed? Take the turning stairs up to the cozy bedroom suite with its newly renovated bathroom. INSIDE: Recently renovated, we have worked to uphold the historic charm of this old house while creating a refreshing and comfortable environment. Downstairs has a couch (not a fold out) and upholstered chair in front of a propane fireplace and mounted 42" television. It also has a dining area / kitchenette with a table and two chairs. Please let us know if you need additional chairs. The kitchenette includes an induction hot plate, espresso machine, hot water kettle, inverter microwave with bake and air-fry options, pot and pan, and a sink. We also have a UV / HEPA air purifier going at all times. The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed, a dresser, full length mirror, and a small desk. Please note that the staircase is a bit steep. OUTSIDE: The property features a shallow pond with bullfrogs and black birds, an icy creek which you can cross into a young black walnut wood. Behind the wood, you will find a swampy wetland which we have named Echo Swamp. We love this wild nook, which hosts families of deer, nesting green herons, and rivaling foxes. On the other side of the road, we are have the beginnings of our organic homestead -- chickens, a vegetable garden, mature chestnut trees, and a flower cutting garden (coming 2024). The landscape restoration is a work in progress, but in the past year, we have planted a number native trees and flowers. We love all kinds of gardening, and plant non-native ornamentals along the roadside. Everything is done without herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers. We maintain this land as a certified wildlife habitat, so please be mindful of all wildlife including birds, deer, frogs, turtles, and snakes.
