Our desire is to take you back in time, allowing you to unplug and enjoy the simple pleasures of sun, water, fires, and family. We also wanted to capture the magic of "hygge" (hoo-gah). Hygge is more than just a Danish word, it is more than just a concept, it is a way of life. It is a practice. When you are staying at Cayhygge Cottage we invite you to read "The Little Book of Hygge". We finished renovating the entire cottage last year. Along with brand a brand-new kitchen and bathroom, we added a wood stove and a salt-water hot tub. You will be comfy and cozy inside or out! Outside you can choose which of the four decks you'd like to drink your morning coffee on (what about the hot tub?!?!), or you can make your way down to the beach or dock and watch the sunrise every morning of your stay. If it rains, never fear! You can play games inside, or open the awning and play games on the deck, while the rain pitter-pats above your head. At night you can take an evening kayak paddle to watch the sunset, then return to have a fire on the beach and roast marshmallows. If it gets chilly at night, you can make a fire in the woodstove, or turn on the electric fireplaces in the bedrooms and curl up with a book. And if you want to venture out, Cayhygge Cottage is surrounded by hikes, waterfalls, wineries, and breweries. It is minutes from Taughannock Falls and The Cayuga Nature Center. The sweet hamlet of Trumansburg is a hop, skip and a jump too. And if for some reason you see everything on the west side of Cayuga Lake, you can take a beautiful car ride over to Seneca Lake and have a whole new adventure there. Don't forget to check out Teeter Pond, or the only National Forest in New York State on your way over to Seneca Lake. You will not run out of things to do. On the contrary, you will most likely want to come back to keep exploring everything this amazingly, beautiful area has to offer. You may even decide to make this a yearly event!
