Locally owned by an Island family of several generations, Breakwater is a completely separate, private apartment in a newer duplex. Located on an elevated property across the marina, offering wonderful views of Southwest Harbor and across to the Cranberry Isles. Walk into town and enjoy shopping & dining in the village of Southwest Harbor and leaving your car behind. Acadia National Park and more than a dozen trailheads are within a 5 min. drive from the house with a bus stop across the street. The house is a duplex with the owner living directly next door (across the driveway). Summer rental rates include all 4 bedrooms with the entire downstairs apartment and the private large deck. Summer months are for full weeks only, with Saturday afternoon check in time. Fall, Winter, and Spring rentals are more flexible for check in and out dates since we and our housekeeper have more availability during the week with kids at school. Well behaved and well mannered dogs are allowed with an extra pet fee of $20/stay AFTER DISCUSSING WITH OWNERS FIRST. We have rules for the pups that we want to go over with folks before they bring their dogs including not leaving them alone at all since this is a duplex. There are lots of dining options with your pups on MDI.

What a wonderful place in a great section of the island! The view of the harbor is amazing and the space is well appointed and spacious. It’s clear the owners put a lot of thought and care into this home. We booked last minute because our other place to stay didn’t work out and Luke and Jackie were so quick to respond when we needed it. I’m so glad my family had the chance to stay at this beautiful home, I hope to return soon!! Perfect!
Loved staying at Luke and Jackie’s place! It was clean, comfortable and close to a lot of restaurants and shopping. We used the large deck everyday and loved looking at the harbor which you can see well from there. Luke was very responsive to questions and very helpful with recommendations.
Luke is a great host and his recently renovated property is perfect for family vacations to Acadia / Mount Desert Island. We prefer to stay in Southwest Harbor and his unit is perfectly located: walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants with a great view of the harbor itself. Luke was enthusiastic and communicative throughout the entire process and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this property again.

Southwest is a nice quiet village on Mount Desert Island that has a great Main Street atmosphere without the level of crowding that is found on other parts of the Island. There are several restaurants and pubs, hiking trails, a bike shop, barber, ice cream, wine, bakery, etc etc.
We are on Main Street on the edge of town on an elevated back lot. We're far enough from the road that the noise is not an issue, far enough from the town center that it's less busy, but close enough that it's only a 5 minute walk to the town center. There is parking on the property to leave your car, walk to town, and take the Island Explorer (free bus system) all over the Island.

Luke is a former engineering sailor for the Merchant Marines, now an engineer at a local utility plant. Jackie is a former waitress, now dental hygienist at a local dental practice. They both love living, working and playing on MDI with their son Cole, dog Maggie and cat Lily. Give us a shout if you want some advise on where to hike, bike, eat, or lounge!
