Casa Mia is a spectacular boutique beach Hotel / Villa located in the heart of the Natural Reserve of Rio Lagartos in El Cuyo, Yucatan. This sleepy fishing village sits along the emerald coast surrounded by lagoons often filled with beautiful pink flamingos. EL CUYO is a small town with a few restaurants and small local convenience stores. We suggest stopping at a supermarket in Cancun before arriving as food options are limited to these little stores with basics like rice, beans, chips, and beer as well as fruits and veggies of the season. There are few restaurants located around us and several in the town that serve seafood, tacos, pizza and a cute little café for breakfast and lunch.

There are different ways to arrive but we do suggest renting a car or taking a taxi as it can be challenging and a long trip by bus. Once you arrive in El Cuyo you will find sandy beach roads with the town spanning only about 2 km from one end to the other.
You can rent a bike to get around easily once you are here or there are Mototaxis running around all day for a easy way to move around El Cuyo
By Car
There are many rental car companies at Cancun Airport and you can easily book a car online before you arrive. Any economy car will work great all around El Cuyo. If you decide to drive to El Cuyo with your own transportation we suggest driving during the daytime, driving at night is not easy and in some spots, there is no phone signal. There are many speed bumps, especially during the last part of the drive. Take it slow and easy. Do not rush and enjoy the driving and little ‘pueblos’.
Fill your gas tank before starting the trip. There are very few gas stations along the road and only one in El Cuyo. Cash is king in El Cuyo. There are no ATMs or banks, the closest one is in Tizimin about 1 hour from El Cuyo.
Police checkpoints are stationed at the entrance/exit of reasonably sized towns. Checkpoints have speed bumps and you must slow down to pass through. Stop if requested. Ideally, have photocopies of your documents rather than originals to hand over if asked for them.
By Taxi/Van

By Bus- long trip
Taking the bus to El Cuyo from Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum will take around 6 hours and 3 different buses. Booking bus tickets online is usually impossible, just ask once you arrive at the ADO Bus Station outside of the Cancun Airport .
If coming from Cancun Airport you have to go to Colonia Yucatan and then from Colonia Yucatan to El Cuyo.
If coming from Tulum take the ADO BUS to Valladolid more or less 1 hour and 40 minutes, then from Valladolid to Tizimin, and then from Tizimin to Colonia Yucatan, then El Cuyo.
IMPORTANT: The time in Tulum or the Riviera Maya/ Q.Roo during the winter, from the end of October up till the beginning of April is one hour ahead of Yucatan State, Valladolid is Yucatan so you gain an hour when traveling there. We recommend that you start traveling in the morning, which gives you some extra time in case something goes wrong. If you do miss the last bus from Tizimin – there are taxis. They cost approximately $450 Pesos (More or less $25USD) and carry up to 4 people.
