The O'Bannon House has another apartment open and it is magnificent: Welcome to The Hugh! This upstairs unit spans the entire length of this grand 190-year-old home. It is newly refurbished to its original glory and boasts original brick walls and unique nooks. You are only a block and a half walk to charming downtown Waterloo and all it has to offer. (If you have a larger group, you can rent out The Ruby below (sleeps 4) and the Hugh above (sleeps 6) to accommodate your entire group!) Only fifteen steps before you enter one of the greatest Air BnBs you've ever seen (in our humble opinion :) ). We've tried to anticipate everything you will need to make your stay comfortable and inviting. As you ascend the steps to the second floor you will enter a hallway area. Walk to your right and you will see our beautiful kitchen and living room combo, with a bathroom off to the right. If you walk to the left you will see two gorgeous bedrooms, a child's creative playroom, and a carved-out office space. Because the unit is upstairs and over 190 years old there may be some uneven floors or walls; you may sag a bit too if you were 190 years old! This quiet upstairs apartment is completely refurbished and we are sure you will feel as if this is your home away from home!

My family had a lovely weekend at "The Hugh". Our stay was perfect. Every room in this home is beautiful, with all modern amenities, and comfortable beds. The kitchen is truly set up to cook or bake anything. We had short, pleasant walks to downtown Waterloo, and enjoyed restaurants recommended by Christy. Also enjoyed "The Mousetrap" at the Monroe County Actors Theater. Waterloo is a nice place to visit. With lot's of nice people! We highly recommend "The Hugh".

Christy's place is simply amazing. The place was super clean, well appointed, comfortable, and spacious. Everything was wonderfully designed, modern, yet still retained the history and charm of the building. I really cannot rave enough! Every inch of space is used efficiently and smartly (being a second floor with pitched ceiling) - we used the office, coffee nook, living room day bed, and our kids loved the little playroom. The kitchen has everything you could need. The beds were comfortable and bathroom had plenty of space and storage. The place was also easy to find, check-in was easy, and the guest book had great recommendations we took advantage of! Plus, "cleaning" and check out was incredibly easy (no cleaning required)! What a great place. We were in the area for the solar eclipse but I may have to find another reason to return just to stay here.
The manager we brought in to stay for the week liked the accessibility and space with the unit. Great parking and great walking to downtown area.
It's a beautiful place. Everything was well appointed and comfortable. We were very happy with our stay.

Set on a quiet, safe street, our home offers the best of both worlds! The city limits of St Louis are only about 17 miles away, yet we are located within walking distance of all that the idyllic town of Waterloo offers: award-winning restaurants, cute shops, and cool breweries. Enjoy our stocked coffee/breakfast bar, a fully-equipped kitchen, a park-like backyard with a fire pit, and a public library right behind us. We now have two units open in the home - The Ruby (a downstairs unit that sleeps 4) and The Hugh (the upstairs penthouse that sleeps 6). The other downstairs apartment is home to our groundskeeper and his dear elderly parents. We are excited for you to experience The O'Bannon House!
Your GPS will take you to our home - address, 204 4th Street, Waterloo, IL. Our downstairs Air BnB is the unit in the front of this building and can be accessed in the front. The unit you are renting is in the back of the building and can only be accessed in the back. You will need to go past the building and take the next left on South Library St. Then, you will take an immediate left into the alley behind our home. You'll see a small green shed, and you'll know you have arrived! The access to your unit is under a covered porch.
You have two designated, free parking spaces in the back of the building to access your unit, and will be marked. If an additional space is needed, there is free, public parking in the front of the unit. If you park there, you will need to walk around the back of the unit to enter 206B. There is also a public library right behind the home if extra parking space is needed. The entire space is lit and safe. You can drive uptown or take a relaxing stroll (it's only 1 1/2 blocks!)

Welcome to The O’Bannon House For years my husband has told me stories of his childhood memories of his great-grandmother’s family home-The O’Bannon House. He describes it as a place of warmth and hospitality. He speaks of the ornate antiques and the beauty of each old piece. He says he remembers its high ceilings that felt open and majestic. Great-grandma was proper and precise but welcoming. Her home was classic and timeless. It was so impressive that its rooms are etched in my husband’s mind after all these years. In this spirit, our building-The O’Bannon House- was named. This building dates back to 1833 and was one of the first structures to have been built in Waterloo. In fact, the house was constructed before Waterloo was even named. It originated as a Catholic girls’ school; then a veterinarian’s office; and finally, it has been home to many families and individuals in the community. There are three units within The O’Bannon. Each unit is named after a beloved great-grandparent. At present, the first phase of the renovation as an Air BnB is complete as the Ruby Suite (the suite you have chosen). The Ruby marries the aesthetics of this 1833 historic home with a bit of modern glamour, too. The other two spaces are long-term rentals, for now. Just as my husband’s memories evoke feelings of warmth, grandeur, and hospitality, it is our hope that your stay here will do the same for you.
