Get away from it all when you stay under the stars at out beautiful 72 acre Camp ikigai Animal Sanctuary and Campground 501c3 property. Each stay supports our efforts. We are a fully off-grid property with very limited power. There is lighting and power available to plug in phones and low power draw devices. Please do not plug in anything high power as it can overload the entire system causing it to shut down. All facilities are shared and not connected to the cabin. This is a 10x12 Tiny Cabin with a with a queen bottom bunk and a single top bunk. Please Note - There are no facilities in or connected to the cabin.
We had a lovely stay at Merrilee’s Birdhouse tiny cabin after a few nights camping by the Giant Sequoias. The comfortable bed and view of the mountains was spectacular and peaceful. The property is primarily an animal sanctuary. Upon arriving, we were greeted by two adorable rescue dogs, a cat and some chickens. Later on, we met a couple of horses and a sheep. The cleverly designed outdoor shower is a treat not to be missed. Being off-grid, the outhouse has a five gallon bucket with a toilet seat attached for when nature calls. This is a much better alternative than using our precious freshwater resources. We greatly appreciated our hosts thoughtfulness and ingenuity. If we’re ever back in the area, we would hope to be fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend another night or two at the sanctuary again.
I had stayed here for a night to visit Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. The national parks are about an hour from the stay. I stayed in the Tiny cabin 3. The cabin was unfinished as of October 2023, but had a bed, lighting, towels, and enough comforters to handle the cold. They have a great common area with campfire, barbecue, tables etc. They have a common non-flush restroom and a shower. I didn't happen to use the shower, but I guess it had hot water too. There's a convenience store 7 minutes away. Not many options for dining, but there's a great pizza place 10 minutes away. All in all, if you love camping/living outdoors in a remote area, you'll like it.
The owner is very kind and aims to create a nice place with limited resources. However, the place is not suitable for providing a tiny house or cabin. The pictures are not representative for the state of the cabin. The shower, kitchen, and toilet are all outdoors and very basic. For camping, on the other hand, when you have your own equipment that does not require electricity, it seems like a nice place to camp. And the dogs are cute and lovely.
We had an amazing time on the sanctuary and plan to return :) thanks so much for having us!
30 minutes before Sequoia Kings Canyon National Parks and 90 minutes to Yosemite.
