Live like a local in this funky house. Located off the beaten track, away from the touristy part of the island, in a mostly local residential (sometimes poor) area. IMPORTANT: Before booking, please read the full description. Especially the part about the location ( "where you'll be") and the reviews. In your reservation request please mention that you have read the full description and understand that the house is not in the touristy part of the island. The house is situated in a fenced in yard with lots of privacy. It's a bit out of the village but there are complimentary bicycles that make it easy to explore the island. It's a rustic, basic, though comfortable house. There is a living with open kitchen, 2 small bedrooms and a private bathroom with hot & cold water. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove/oven, fridge, coffee machine and all the other necessary utensils. There is WiFi and a Smart TV (including Firestick with some apps). All windows have screens and there are standing fans in every room. Spoonbill House nr. 2 is the bottom part of a double level house. Both houses are rentals and have their own entries. There is no access to the upper deck, unless the upstairs guests allow you to go there or when there are no guests staying upstairs.
Monique’s house far from tourist spot but me and husband enjoy it. They provided bikes and can just biked around to the town within 10mins. House was clean and tidy. Fan was breezing and even sitting at patio have breeze. Have nearby beach walking distance but I rode bike and really nice with no one surroundings. Kitchen was fully equipped. With the price of house such a worth it. WiFi was fast but on our last day bit slow and turn up everyone on the island have same problem on that day. Have nearby supermarket too around the house. Dog bark at night but both of us have earplugs to sleep so it was fine. Definitely worth it to stay here. Monique always responsive and help during my stay. Thanks Monique!
The provided bikes made getting to and from town very easy and relaxing. Close by shops for snacks and small meals, and a very peaceful and quiet stay in the locals portion of the island!
Kein "welcome/nice to meet you", sondern "why are you 4 people-here's your key".
This house is located outside the main village in a residential area where you live among the local people. The area does not have a touristy vibe and especially during rainy weather, the streets can be bad. Beware that Belize is a developing country and minimum wage is low. This means that few people can afford a house of their own and often more than 1 family live on a property under sometimes poor conditions.
Caye Caulker is a small island and the main restaurants, shops, supermarkets, dive-/snorkel tour operators are about a 20-30 minute walk or a 15-20 minute bike ride away. In the area close to the house are a few small food stalls and the nearest grocery store is a few minutes by bike. On rainy days (yes, we have them, it's the tropics after all) the roads can be a challenge with slippery potholes and big puddles, but if you like a bit of adventure it will be no problem at all.
There are no paved streets on Caye Caulker, just a few sandy or rocky roads. Way of transport is either by foot, bike or golf cart, cars are not allowed. If you're tired of walking or cycling you can catch a golf cart taxi which are readily available.
Originally from the Netherlands and now living on the small tropical island of Caye Caulker in Belize. I enjoy the 'go slow' mentality of island life and live by the day. I'm a real dog lover and work as a volunteer at the Caye Caulker Humane Society.
