The Bothy at Ivy Cottage offered on a B&B basis, is a unique, cosy & beautiful, centuries-old stone Shepherd’s Hut, situated in the hamlet of Red Path, a short drive to the popular town of Halthwhistle. The Bothy is surrounded by dramatic countryside, woodlands and magnificent views as far as the eye can see. Though not far from the convenience of A69, the Bothy offers a tranquil and peaceful setting. The Bothy at Ivy Cottage one of only a handful left in Northumberland is the perfect hideaway to explore this extraordinary County. Recently refurbished, the characterful and comfortable King-size bedroom has beautiful wooden beams, Hypos King sized bed, and an en-suite Shower & Toilet. Though not self catering, you have access to Toaster, Nespresso Coffee machine, kettle, Microwave, mini fridge and all the necessary crockery & cutlery needed. Table and chairs located by the large window to enjoy breakfast, which overlooks the valley below and you can often see local wildlife, along with sheep and cattle passing by. Outside the Bothy you have your own small garden area to enjoy with bench, seats and a table, and in summer access to a BBQ.

Das Bothy von Fearga ist wirklich eine tolle Unterkunft, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Hübsch eingerichtet und kuschelig, nah am Hadrianswall, den wir besichtigt haben. Fearga ist eine großartige Gastgeberin, die sehr flexibel und freundlich war. Wir haben von ihr ein tolles individuelles Frühstück bekommen und sogar eine Flasche Prosecco. Außerdem hat sie uns sehr gute Tipps für die Umgebung gegeben. Wir haben uns sehr willkommen gefühlt und wären am liebsten noch länger geblieben.
The Bothy cottage stay offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere with excellent accommodation. Fearga and her Husband are lovely and friendly, ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable stay for guests. Overall, it's a highly recommended choice for those seeking a peaceful getaway in a beautiful natural setting.
We had a great time staying here! It was really cosy, even when it was really cold outside! Everything was really clean. The hosts were so welcoming and were really hospitable and kind. Breakfast was great too. It was a lovely private location but short drives to get to local pubs, restaurants and pretty walks. We'd definitely go again!

Though less than a 5 minute drive to the nearest town, Haltwhistle, when you stay at The Bothy you will feel like you are secluded in quiet, rural countryside, with stunning views all around and only the local wildlife to disturb the peace! And then you are only a short drive away to some great local restaurants and pubs, local supermarkets and quaint tea / coffee shops.
You can access local trains to Carlisle and Newcastle from Haltwhistle. There is also a local bus service connecting the town with Hadrian's Wall during the peak summer months, as well as a local bus connecting Haltwhistle to Brampton, Carlisle, Hexham & Corbridge. And if needed we have an excellent local taxi service.

Originally from Dublin, I've lived in London for the last 32 years, but moved to Northumberland at the end of 2017, looking for a different way of life with my Husband, Graham. We were introduced to Ivy Cottage when we took part in the BBC programme 'I Escaped to the Country' in 2017 when house no. 2 stole our hearts. We knew in those first moments that this would be the perfect place to make our home, and to welcome guests from all over the world. We look forward to introducing you to all that Northumberland has to offer and to make your stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as we can, so that you'll want to return again and again.
