It was a wonderful stay in a historic cabin among a historic setting. I was hear to research my pioneer great great grandparents who moved to the area in 1855. Staying in a 150 year old cabin just made the experience all the more meaningful! After returning from a day of research I was able to hike the trails and further immerse myself in what life may have been like for them. I hope to return in the future!
My husband and I staid at this cabin about 5 years ago when it was listed on a different platform and it was just as wonderful as we remembered. The 150 year old structure is full of interesting books, games and charm. Lori was very communicative before the stay with instructions and to answer questions. Norskadalen itself was lovely and we enjoyed hiking on the trails and seeking trolls. I loved the historic homestead and enjoyed the museum. We will definitely be back!
The cabin had a cozy feel and certainly is unique in it's truly being a log cabin. The basement is more modern and is where the bathroom is.
This is our third stay here, and we love the idyllic setting! It's a birdwatching paradise, and the area is just gorgeous. So quiet and peaceful. If you love nature, this is your spot!
自我介绍
Norskedalen has been built by volunteers over the past 40 years who believe that remembering their heritage is the best way to pave the road to the future. Since Norskedalen is not about me, but about those who built it and those who will keep it growing, what I share with you here is reflective of Norskedalen and it's members. Buildings were moved to Norskedalen from a variety of surrounding farms. Each of the buildings were lived in and/or used within 10 miles of where they now stand. The Homestead is built in traditional Norwegian style of a 'tun', or U shape. A tobacco barn resides at the top of the hill behind the homestead, reflecting the significance of the tobacco farms in this area. All of this work was done by volunteers on weekends and evenings, with no paid staff, no budget, no funding. Just the belief that preserving the history of this area is important for the future. Tremendous friendships have been built during the building of Norskedalen! The Paulson Cabin was built in the 1840's. The kitchen and basement were added to make it modern, but otherwise what you see in the living room and upper level is what the Paulson family lived in. Your rental of the Paulson cabin includes access to Norskedalen grounds; stop in the Visitors' Center for information on events, hiking trails, museums and gifts shops.
