多尔切斯特(Dorchester) · 整套民居 · 3室4床1.5卫 · 可住5人 · My Darling Charming Quirky Dorset Cottage
This is my darling cottage set in the delightful village of Melbury Osmond/"Little Hintock" in Thomas Hardy's book The Woodlanders and perfectly placed to reach many of the wonderful things that Dorset has to offer - the Jurassic Coast, the charming villages of Cerne Abbas, Evershot and Cattistock and the quaint towns of Beaminster and Sherborne. There are many lovely walks around - an amble with the dog, The Hardy Way nearby or a walk through Melbury deer park to the Acorn Inn at Evershot. This charming quirky little cottage is a great place for family holidays or weekends with friends, a Dorset institution in fact where many of my Dorset friends have had much jollity and fun with its coloured walls, cottage rooms with rural views in a wonderful rural setting and surrounded by wonderful things to see and do. However, please note that it is an OLD COTTAGE in imperfect decorative order with old furniture. There are two bedrooms on the first floor - the main bedroom and the single one and the small bathroom with a bath and hand held shower attachment for hair washing. Steep stairs lead up to the cosy attic room with twin beds. It is dog-friendly but the garden is not enclosed. However, there are wonderful rural walks from the cottage and it is a delight to amble through the very pretty village. Dogs welcome but please leave £10 in the cottage for the cleaner. Unsuitable for children under 4. About 20 minutes to the coast and beaches Located in wonderful Dorset countryside in a very pretty village Located almost "in the middle of the county" which provides great access to many parts of Dorset and into Somerset. Close to the A37 which gives good access into and around the county Railway station (Yeovil Junction) c.5 minutes away - trains from London Waterloo or the Bristol/Bath/Castle Cary (line to London Paddington) Weymouth line can be picked up at Yetminster also 5 minutes away. Close to good restaurants, archetypal Dorset villages and towns and many things to do (information provided in the cottage or please ask). Supermarkets 6 miles away in Yeovil with a late shop about 2 miles away in the village of Yetminster. Broadband Netflix DVD player with films Rayburn (similar to an AGA) runs all the time during the winter Some radiators and additional electric heating. Woodburner - complimentary bag of logs and kindling. Additional logs and kindling are provided but at a cost. Washer/drier Dishwasher Microwave Larder fridge Small table top freezer (34L) Small bathroom with bath with hand held shower attachment, washbasin and WC Downstairs WC with washbasin The sun room is lovely to sit in and read the paper or to kick off muddy boots after a long walk Large gravelled parking area for 3/4 cars or 3 cars and a boat (c. 6m). Large garden mainly laid to lawn with lovely views over fields BBQ Village tennis court 5 minutes' walk away which can be used by guests but please book directly with The Melbury Tennis Club (see website). Sorry no children under 4 years old. Sorry NO SMOKING IN THE COTTAGE, SUN ROOM or OUT OF THE WINDOWS please! Tea, coffee bedlinen, towels , tea towels, lavatory paper, shampoo and soap are provided.
Kate was so wonderful! From letting us check in early to allowing us to check out late. Provided firewood and kindling during our stay because the weather was terribly rainy. She provided many recommendations for walks, pubs, dining and things to do in the local area.
Great place, really nice BBQ and garden. Quiet and not far from main shopping places. Thanks very much
Oh my what a beautiful place!! I could live here. My dogs and I had the best couple of days. Such a gorgeous house and beautiful countryside and Catherine was so helpful.
The cottage was a perfect stop during our walking trip. Charming, cosy and well appointed we recovered from the rain easily with the help of the aga! I’d strongly recommend such a gorgeous wee corner to anyone.
Melbury Osmond is located in one of the prettiest parts of Dorset bordering the 'Cattistock country' with its green undulating land which gets more dramatic as you weave your way to the coast 25 minutes away. It could be said that it is in the centre of the county and access to many of the iconic Dorset landmarks are within 1/2 hour's drive in any direction. The village features in one of the great writer, Thomas Hardy's books 'The Woodlanders' and in fact his mother was brought up in the village and her cottage still stands. It is one of the 'choice villages' in estate agents speak with its lovely period properties, handsome church and 'the Splash' - a small brook that crosses the village road and flanks the Melbury Estate with its parkland.
The cottage is rural but not isolated with houses around. It is semi-detached but with a degree of privacy.
BY ROAD: The A37 is nearby giving great access from the A303/M5 to the north or from the M3/M27 to the south.
BY TRAIN: The London Waterloo to Exeter train stops at Yeovil Junction/Stoford 5 minutes away. The Bristol /Bath/Castle Cary (link to London Paddington)/Weymouth train stops at Yetminster also 5 minutes away.
BY AIR: Bristol Airport is 1.5 hours away and Exeter, Bournemouth and Southampton are also around 1 hour away.
PORTS: The ports of Dover (212 miles) and Portsmouth (87 miles) serve the South of England.

I've lived in Dorset for over 20 years and brought my two children up here and now they both live and work in London. I have been working in many aspects of property also for over 20 years and currently run my own business as a property search agent finding both residential and commercial property across the south of England for my clients.
