The 3rd bathroom is a separate large bathroom with a traditional claw footed bath complete with free standing double sized shower.
The cottage is very big and well equipped in a great area of the Lakes, a short drive into Keswick. Two pubs in easy walking distance and very peaceful position. This is a good place to stay in Braithwaite, off road parking definitely a big plus
We absolutely loved our stay here. The Old Farmhouse was absolutely beautiful with everything we could need. With beautiful walks right on its doorstep, a little shop round the corner and local pubs less than 5 mins walk away there was literally nothing more we could ask for. We’d be back in a heartbeat. Thanks Lorraine for a wonderful stay!
Absolutely superb 17th century converted farmhouse. Perfect for a friend’s special birthday combined with a Burn’s supper. Lovely warm kitchen with Aga. Great living/dining room with big table for 8 and a massive wood burner with plenty of logs provided. We stayed during Storm Isha and it was really cosy with a roaring fire and an old film on the massive telly. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Perfect.
We had a family Christmas 7 of us and stayed 7 nights , we had plenty of space and Lorraine was very good we asked for an extra towel and got one straight away, we asked for more wood for the lovely log burner and was delivered two bags promptly. We managed to cook a Christmas dinner in the aga 😁 which we had never used one before, it was so cosy sitting in kitchen enjoying the heat from the aga . All in all I would recommend this farmhouse , Thankyou for a lovely stay Lorraine x
In the heart of Braithwaite village, it's one of the best places you could be based for your lake district holiday - experience a traditional lakeland village where you will be spoilt for choice with so many walk options from the door, village shop & 4 pubs/restaurants, 2 cafes and the popular market town of Keswick and Whinlatter mountain forest only 5 mins'/2 miles drive away.
Braithwaite has all the following within a few minutes' walk of the cottage: a village shop, a village pub the Royal Oak serving local ales and meals, the Ivy House restaurant, the Ruddings Hotel with restaurant and the Coledale Inn serving meals and drinks, 2 tea rooms - Jasper's Coffee House and Braithwaite House Team Room - check all establishment's websites for opening times and menus and bookings are recommended or essential for meals.
Braithwaite is a walker's paradise - you can leave the car behind as so many walks can be started from your front door whether flat walks or taking on some of the famous Wainwright fells ranging from some of the more gentle to some harder challenges: Grisedale Pike, Barrow, Outerside, Causey Pike and the Coledale Horseshoe, sometimes called The Coledale Round, which can be shorter or longer depending on your preference. You can also walk into the beautiful Newlands Valley including to the ever-popular Catbells mountain or into Keswick via different routes (the quickest/most direct requires 2 crossings of the A66). There are woodland and lakeside walks nearby and the nearest lakes are Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater with 6 other of the main lakes within 30 mins drive.
You can drive the Newlands Pass or Whinlatter Pass into the adjoining valley of the Lorton Vale with the lakes of Buttermere, Loweswater and Crummock Water.
2 miles/5 mins drive away is Whinlatter Forest, England's only true mountain forest with its visitor centre, trail routes for mountain bikes, cycling, walking, running, cycle hire from Cyclewise, a chance to see a Gruffalo statue and Go Ape - 40 feet in the trees with zip wires, bridges etc, and special events including dark skies walks - see their website for more details.
The popular market town of Keswick has many shops, restaurants, pubs, parks, the Alhambra cinema and the Theatre by the Lake and the lake Derwentwater with boat trips around the lake or boats to hire.
The Lingholm estate where Beatrix Potter stayed and which has a cafe and walled garden is 10 mins' drive or you can walk there.
By Lake District standards, there is also a fairly regular bus service the X5, approx every hour Mon to Sat - search online for full details.
In the direction of the town of Cockermouth with lots of independent shops and eateries, there is Bass Lake Train station which is now a cafe with a train from the Orient Express film or the Lakes Distillery with various tours and restaurant.
For supermarkets, there is a Booths (a bit like Waitrose) and a Lakes & Dales co-op in Keswick or 20 mins drive at Cockermouth Aldi, Lidl and Sainsburys. Most of the major supermarkets also deliver to Braithwaite - book early for popular slots eg Friday afternoon/evening.
Meet or walk alpacas or trek with llamas with Alpacaly Everafter who offer different packages at several locations close to us.
You really will be spoilt for choice in exploring the area if you stay with us.
The property is in Braithwaite village, which is 2.5 miles from Keswick and just off the A66 which means we are easily accessible even in winter.
The bus stop for the X5 bus route from Workington, Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith (including the train station on the West Coast mainline) stops a few minutes from the cottage and takes about 8 minutes into Keswick and runs Mon to Sat usually at least every hour and sometimes more often.
You could also walk or cycle into Keswick.
