Wonderful host and great visit! We loved walking the grounds, watching the alpacas, and petting the cats. The cottage was excellent - great kitchen, comfy beds, fun African art. We hope to return.
This is one of the best Airbnb experiences ever! The house was very clean, comfortable and inviting. It is very well appointed and filled with interesting treasures from all over the world. Every window afforded a beautiful view of the farm. We immediately felt at home. On top of the fantastic accommodations, Mary is a charming and fun-loving hostess. She met us at the front gate and gave us a tour of the farm. She introduced us to her wonderful alpacas and we were able to visit them throughout our stay. There were several crias (baby alpacas) that we enjoyed. She was available during our stay to answer any questions we had. She is delightful! The farm is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I travel a lot and this is not an understatement. The countryside surrounding the farm is gorgeous as well. The alpaca farm store is a must to visit. There are beautiful alpaca products that are very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this Airbnb. I am excited to return!
We are repeat visitors because we love it here so much. It is so incredible with all of the animals around, and the very peaceful surroundings. It is truly magical!
This is our third time back. We love it here! Our four year old is obsessed with all of the animals. It feels like being in a movie. We always have the best time!
This was our second stay at Mary’s place and the first time with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 1/2 year old granddaughter to come along for the visit. We also met up with my daughter and her husband who drove over from NOVA for a wonderful family weekend. The fall foliage was beautiful and we enjoyed wandering the property, feeding carrots to the horses and admiring the peaceful alpacas. Mary and Jay are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about everything on the farm. Jay facilitated a “meet and greet” with the alpacas when we were able to feed and pet them as well as learn more about them. Mary has a wonderful shop with beautiful alpaca scarves, gloves, sweaters, etc. We rented the main house as well as the downstairs studio. Everything is beautifully furnished, well maintained, and clean. We felt very much at home. Our group enjoyed eating out in the nearby town of Marshall as well as hiking in Shenandoah, which was less than an hour away. We definitely hope to return.

Well traveled animal lover...both horses, alpacas, deer...this is the country and I love it. Very private and beautiful. I am the horticultural chair of the local garden club and president of the Virginia Alpaca Association. I paint furniture and have developed an organic fertilizer for sustainable agriculture...see www.marysPoop.com. I also love a good joke. I enjoy being close enough to Washington DC and all it offers, The Kennedy Center, great restaurants etc. The small historic town of Middleburg and The Plains and the history of this area is extremely appealing and make me feel connected to area. Very warm and cozy and real. I don't want this to sound like bragging but my home is really beautiful. The gardens are usually flowering (or growing more weeds than I can pull)...I find it fascinating to watch peoples reaction to the alpacas especially if we have some babies around. Like getting your first teddy bear I suppose. I respect other peoples differences and privacy and certainly expect the same in return from any house guest. Love, Europe and have a real passion for Africa. I'm not much into TV, except for documentaries and things like National Geographic. Oh, just got a ukulele. Hurts my fingertips but did manage Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...sort of. Mary
